I need to order it also. I have another by Jepson I want too. It's on Felling. I don't really know any professionals that I can brain pick, so reading a book by one I figure is next best thing.
I like Jeff Jepson books they are very easy for my pea brain yo understand & have excellent illustrations to help convey his points. I’m also in my early sixties & while we have a small farm I have worked in a local hardware store for the last thirty years. I think I might like working for a tree service but wonder if I’ve still got the coordination/ strength/ endurance to give an employer an honest days work. Maybe some day I’ll find out! Like Jrider said please keep us posted on your experience & good luck to you!
Thank you for the well wishes. I wonder the same about strength/endurance. I may be kidding myself. Will keep you posted. Went 0 for 1 yesterday. More to try today.
Its not always about the strength or endurance. I'm in late 50's and I've noticed I've been using more and more tricks using leverage rather than strength. Also I noticed years ago that a slower steady pace gets more done over the course of a day than rushing and taking more breaks. Not worked with many tree services but the ones I've watched seems to be a lot off hurry up and wait.
Hope it works out for you Bernie. I helped an arborist twice with somewhat big removals. His wife worked with mine and they had been over to the house to swim a time or two. He worked at a pretty good clip. As his only groundie, I worked my a55 off! After those 2 times I knew that wasn't a job I'd like, and I'm definitely not afraid of a little work. I'd say when negotiating your wage, make it worth your time.
Consider it will keep a person from being sedentary and health issues accelerating. you will be working for extended time with your heartbeat up. That’s a good thing. My cousin retired from UPS which has a good Teamster pension. Work a couple days to get out of his wife’s way. Lawn crew at a cemetery with some young guys. They never gave a thought to servicing equipment. Spent first days changing oil and stuff.
Can't believe 2 weeks have passed. No luck on the employment front but I did get a chance to be part of the ground crew for a nearby job. I was dragging by days end but got the job done on a 2 day job. Still looking.
