The twice a year lawnmower-snowblower swap.

I siphon what I can of remaining e-free gas from the snowblowers. I then store them away in the garage. The garage is a more storage shed.

I let the snowblowers run totally dry. In the closed garage. Night-night to any rodents.

I dragged the lawnmower up to the tool shed. Drained the oil and gave the blade some file time, which I didn't do last year due to broken wrist. Stupid Craftsman for no oil drain plug. Oil comes put the way it goes in.

Some new oil, fresh gas. One pull and she fired right up.

Hopefully this weekend I can start the process. Although I am up to enough garden tractors I can have dedicated, snow, mow, and tilling machines.

I think all the newer briggs engines lack a drain plug.. At least the briggs ex on the work push mower does not have one.
And I agree it is truly a stupid design. Briggs way of getting more engine sales I guess?

Did a similar tuneup on the 48” Deere walk behind. Stens makes a nice kit for the 14hp Kawasaki that I use seasonally. Ended up doing all new fuel lines while I was working on it.

I hear you on the drain plugs on these smaller mowers. For our mower in VT, I bought one of those small oil extractor pumps. Works really great. Sucks all the oil out through the dipstick tube.

Gotta be cheaper to manufacture, IMO.

Plus I'd bet the majority of the owners dont change oil ... let alone check oil or even sharpen there blades... thusly a consumer grade mower...

It's mower and weed eater season here too! I sharpened the blades on the TS 348XD Husky lawn tractor last week. Found a failing mandrel and ordered that along with oil and air filter and oil. It's good to go now. The string trimmers only needed the air filters cleaned. The Massey tractor got a hydraulic fluid and filter change, oil and filter change, fuel filter, and air filter. I think everything is ready for work now.

My splitter needs an oil change, but I am done with it for this season. I think it's better to change the oil next Fall before I start using it again?

I always change my splitter oil the last time I use it before storage. Better being stored with new clean oil than old acidic oil eating away at things.
I do that with the lawn mowers too.

I was taught by a old timer (neighbor) that to file/grind... to not file to a sharp edge but to file to a thick edge... a thin edge is brittle and if a thin edge is created go back and hit it with a file/grind to flatten its edge... not sure, but it made sense and I've always done it that way....

Yeah Jeff...they are the counter weight for the bagger that I use for leaves in the fall. They should not be on there without the bagger, but I never take them off! Lol

My honda is the same way. I thought it was stupid when I bought it. But it's very easy and no mess. My previous mower had a drain plug... that drained oil all over the deck.
Friday was my 3rd or 4th mowing of the year. And I burned weeds in my driveway.

Yesterday, I put a new battery in the tractor. I managed to mow and weed wack for the first time this year.
And then it began to rain. The Mrs., and I will be gone for a week, so getting it done was important.
    And wood got stacked.
Looks like a rainy day ahead, no splitting at the Yard tree score. Oh well, maybe I can stack a little here.
Never been to Ohio before, it will be a fun drive. Sirchopsalot Jr is getting married.
