At the start of the season I had grand plans of being able to give an honest and accurate answer to this, ….. nope! So I’m guessing between 3 and 4 cords. Quite a bit was river birch, which I liked, but don’t have the heat of elm and ash. We had a lot more snow than we’ve had for decades but I don’t think we had as much prolonged bitter cold. could be that I burned more because I had it and didn’t feel the need to be stingy with it
I don't have a solid answer either. I had hoped to get a good solid number this year, but that didn't happen. 6 cord maybe? Somewhere around there, maybe 7. We sold a little and then refilled a couple of spots. The important thing is that we stayed warm.
Somewhere around 4 1/2 to 5 cords, which is close average cordage for me for a 'regular' winter. Less BTU's burned though as this was the first season burning some dedicated shoulder season hemlock. Wasn't extremely cold, but cold enough to have the stove going 24/7 for most of the season. Still burning intermittently here (mid-thirties yesterday morning so a fire to take the chill off then windows open in the afternoon when it was in the 70's). Some years will burn off and on into early June.
Im guesstimating I went through 3.5 - 3.75 cords. Usually get closer to 5 cord. Burned mostly oak species. Used less than a face cord of BL. Ran the oil furnace 2 times. Both tines were just to be sure it operated. Im not sure if my burn season is over yet. Cooler weather coming next week.
Not sure exactly the amount I've burned so far because I take from various stacks, depending on temps. But I just checked the gauge on the LP tank and I didn't even use 10% of what was in there. Should be good not having to pay the gas man for a couple more winters.
13,049 lbs. We just had the A/C on yesterday (had back to back days of highs of 86 and 84) but may have a fire or 15 left before we are all done.
Just at 2 cords of oak, hickory, and ash. I think 1/4 was the cold snap where we were below zero for a week with high winds. House stayed 70-72 at the thermostat all winter. I had two doors freeze shut and frost growing on the other. Burned about 2/3 less this year than last year. I've got enough bucked up waiting to split to replace what was used.
That's about my usual...haven't totaled up from this year yet though...seems like it will be less for sure.
We started burning first week of September last year, just for a lump of heat in the evenings. So we brought 6.6 cord up, thinking it would be a long but not so cold winter. We brought a cord back down to the stacks yesterday, because I don't want wood right next to the house all summer. We have a little on the rack at the house for the next few weeks, uglies and skinnies, stuff I didn't want to re-stack. One cord we used was EWP & Hemlock, pushed out the oak and maples for next year. So used 5.5, where 6 is what I expect. We simply didn't have the cold here.
Looks like about a cord left. So around 3 cords burnt this year. We're pretty much done here, unless we get a cold rain then I'll fire up at night. I'll need to move the rest of the patio stack down to the wood shed to get an accurate wood usage. Each row is more or less a full cord. The first row a little less as it's 7 feet tall, and more as the rows get to the front of the shed with the pitch of the roof allowing the stacks to get up to like 10/11 feet. I know I've got the first row in my wood shed that is pretty much untouched aside from pulling some uglies that I throw on top and I used those for fires when it was a little cold still. There is more on the sides from row two though. Add the patio stack remnants and I'll get an accurate reading.
We have gotten 183.75 inches so far. I hope we are done for the season, but we could get a couple of inches tonight.
I couldn't keep track, as we pulled from different sheds and lots of chunks too. Decent year to burn though.
Geeze, I really couldn't decide which one of these posts I liked better....so I liked them both! I have about 50" more snowfall than you, YooperSam Got some more overnight and man, is that stuff ever h-e-a-v-y!
