I've just sharpened 15 loops on the Oregon chain grinder using the Diamond Abrasive CBN wheel and it's tits. No radius dressing required at all and it produces a much finer grind that the red wheels could ever achieve plus it don't heat the tooth either. Very impressed. They say (manufacturer) they are good for 1000 loops before replacement. I can buy that plus they self feed as well. At some point I may buy their CBN raker wheel too.

Currently, $107.00 shipping included. Considering the life of the conventional wheels, it's really a wash.

I've been thinking about getting one for my grinder, I notice that the pink wheels that come with are not the greatest for consistency unless you keep on top of the radius profile

Only thing holding me back is the $$$$, by the time i convert to canadian funds and shipping costs it gets a bit spendy

I've been looking at them. I might get one, since I will be cutting like crazy this year.

I’ll concur. The cheap pink wheels that came with my China grinder were all but useless. The CBN was a night and day difference. Bought both .325 and 3/8”s and a flat wheel for the rakers.

I don't do pictures or video's. Not my thing but, the cost of the wheel (110 bucks USD) greatly offsets the cost of the red wheels. 1000 chains and you never touch the wheel.

Just got another 75 loops to sharpen for the local tree guy. This could turn into actual work Told him 5 bucks a loop and he said fine. Dang grinder just paid for itself and the CBN wheel too. I grind his chipper knives as well. I own a chipper knife grinder and a lot of other stuff as well. I get a pretty steady diet of chipper knives and anvils. Been doing all the local tree companies as well as a couple regional ones. I charge 50 cents per lineal inch on knives so if the knives are 10" long, that is 20 total (2 sided) or 10 bucks a knife.

    retirement is grand...

Takes about 5 minutes per loop, rakers included.

Better buy it soon. I see the price has increased since I bought mine a month ago. Jumped up 10 bucks.

I’ve had a diamond wheel cbn whee for a couple years now, has held up well grinds a sharper chain than the pink wheels. Also much cooler grinding but still need to watch how aggressive you are on really rough chains because it will still heat the tooth up taking large cuts. Have to see how long it will go im probably around 400 chains on mine now.

Word is out on the street here than I have the Oregon Grinder. Just picked up a pile of loops to be sharpened

The CBN wheel does a much finer grind than the stock wheels do. The way I'm going, I'll have to buy a second machine just to cut the rakers....lol

Changing wheels is a PITA so a second machine just for rakers might be in the future, especially if I keep getting loops to sharpen. I'll have to have a look see at machines. Don't have to be fancy like the one I now have because it will just run a raker wheel. Right now I'm buried in chipper knives and dull loops...lol and my new stump grinder is in transit so word is out I have one and getting inquires for grinding stumps and I don't even have it yet...lol

I really wanted to retire and just farm on my own time. Looks like that isn't gonna happen.

According to Diamond Wheel they will go 1000 loops of average size which I presume is 20"

The guard that covers the center of the wheel broke on my grinder. Takes 40 seconds to change wheels

Ok, so when they say 1000 loops, is that sharpening 1000 loops 1x or 1000 loops 20+ times?
Thats 36,000 cutters vs almost a million.

Not needed with a CBN wheel as they don't explode.

Some of the time, I get a bur on the top of the cutter; it is like the chrome is rolling up. Do you ever get this? It is no big deal, it comes off when cutting, I just never seen it before with the pink wheels...
