I can't imagine that's the case now a days. How many years ago was it that you worked for a stihl dealer? I can't speak for ope type stuff but the automotive world was a joke 3 years ago. Like pulling teeth to get people to do the job they were paid to do. Absolutely no going above and beyond to get what the customer needs. I don't believe that got any better with the covid stuff.

Oh, well before COVID for sure. This would have been pre-2010, but I was still in touch up through 2017 when I moved south. Support was EVERYTHING in the OPE biz back then. We did fairly well on that model and I certainly was privileged to have met some of the best around at that time. There were 3-4 other dealers within an hour's round trip from us (well within our delivery radius), we all had accounts with each other, and it was routine for us to order parts for brands we didn't carry from each other. Our delivery drivers would stop in and were greeted as friends. It was never high volume, and we paid something between invoice and MSRP, but nobody was about to be an azzhole over a gasket kit or the like.

This should be part of the Remember When? thread.

I was a part of something like you describe when i worked at an auto dealer. It was nice when businesses worked together.

About 15 years ago I worked for one of the two gm dealers in town and it was a constant back and forth.
Parts departments were constantly getting parts from each other, service departments too with specialized tools
Even though we were competitors we tried working together, had a real smallish town feel
Sales dept was a different story......

On car parts, at least, it used to be, parts supply houses would get on a hot line and really work to fine a hard-to-get part for a tractor, etc. But I have to tell you Stihl dealerships, at least in my locality, just don't go the extra mile, in my experience, otherwise, well, enough said about that.

Well, this is just an update. After my wife and I recovered from our calamities, lately, I f found the time to put this saw back together, fired it up and it ran great. So, I recon I am back in business. I guess it's been a good lesson for me. It don't matter how many trees you have cut up without issue, it don't pay to take shortcuts or chances on the next cut. I should have been more careful. But it wasn't a safety thing, I figured the worst that could happen is a pinched bar but ended up with a wrecked saw instead.

Thanks again for all of the help in finding parts.

    Slow is an understatement.

I have had an air filter base on order so I can finish BRAD's saw. Today is two weeks.
Last call beginning of the week I was told that Stihl is way behind on shipping orders and have actually stopped taking new orders until they get caught up , don't know if this is true or not but do know I am still waiting.
A stupid 7 dollar plastic part has this thing on hold:doh:
