I go to the bank once or twice a month and use the drive thru. I always make a deposit and 99% of the time it's a check. I use the one closest to the teller which is a tray that extends out to your window (not the tube). They say hello, I say hello back and they watch me as I'm getting my deposit together and into the tray.

I put what I am depositing into the tray and begin saying "I would like it deposited into *bank account number*" and EVERY time I get started with the number the teller (no matter who) starts scrambling for a pen and deposit slip. It's as if they aren't ready to make a deposit and I repeat the number for them.

So my question is, what are tellers anticipating when you place your deposit into the tray that they seem surprised or unprepared to be taking your account information you want it deposited into?

Some customers have the deposit slip made out ahead of time, and put it in the tray with any other paperwork.

I haven't talked with a teller in years.
All deposits through ATM. Check, cash whatever.

I've been going to banks for over 50 years. Deposits, withdrawals and always filled out a slip with my numbers on it. I can't imagine why you would want to give an account number verbally and chance someone else hearing it.
Honestly, not trying to criticize, I never knew there was another way to do it until recently where people take pictures with their phone and bank from home.
I leave my banking off my phone.

I was in a bank yesterday for the first time in long time....Withdrew a little over $18,500.00 but had to make an appointment to get it. I called last Saturday and it wasn't ready until yesterday.

Any deposit I ever made, they required a deposit slip.

    I always endorse my deposits

    “For deposit only
    ‘Name of bank’
    ‘Account number’ “

    never have an issue.

Now that USAA has the requirement for their phone app, it’s become “for mobile deposit only”. The rest being the same

For depositing anything, I think we still use a piece of paper. Although I think we have handed the teller the bank/atm/debit/whatever it is card. They hand the card back with a receipt.

I was at the bank yesterday and withdrew about 1/3 that, they acted like I should have called ahead, and they didn't know if they had that much on hand, I was like what, really?! I thought I was at a bank, not a grocery store! They hooked me up then, but had to shuffle some things around to make it happen.

I went for cash at the atm (at the bank) to buy our wood stove.
They wouldn't let me have all of what I needed.
So I had to get creative.
    And then closed the account.
It's easier just to keep cash on hand.

I've never been asked for or given a deposit slip to fill out. I've always either gone inside (haven't in years) or drive thru. Never had a problem with anyone hearing my account number. So I guess the correct thing is to get a pack of deposit slips from the bank.

2 of the 3 tellers at the drive thru window at my bank know my account number… 1 is about to retire so a new gal looks it up or asks me every time I send a check in.

The folks at our bank (smaller, community bank that has about 10-12 branches or so in 4 or 5 counties) look up our name, and then ask which account. The accounts have names, (money market, savings, mainstreet checking etc) and evidently those are notated in the info on the tellers screen. This is the first bank I've ever used where the tellers fill out the slip, all others I've had to do it myself.

You get a pack of deposit slips and throw them in your glove box. Every deposit should have the slip already filled out with all your info on it. Ask for some or go inside and there should be some at a desk or station made for filling stuff out.

I walk into my bank pretty regularly. A couple times a week isn’t uncommon. Bank doesn’t have a drive through. Both of the gals behind the counter know my number without asking or looking.
