I didn’t say it was roadworthy :emb: But that 327 4 speed is in my garage waiting for well …
Time and $ at same time.. I bought it with paper route $$ years before I had a license

Awesome! I appreciate your college football fandom! I love college football. I root for Colorado State, Air Force and Kansas State - we have family near Manhattan, KS. I’m confused by the green grass. Are those recent pics? No green grass here yet. We will have snow on the ground.

I'm definitely the long version of the word fan[atic], lol. I was able to give him that mower and just this weekend the cart. He's not so fanatical but he does like Michigan. I too love college football. The band, the tailgating, the stadium atmosphere...
And I had grass spots so tall at home I had to mow over it to prevent using a weed eater. It's not tall everywhere yet. Highs today are supposed to be 80!

That back gate on the trailer can be removed and inserted completely flat or angled down as a ramp. I had it in flat and backed the trailer into a hill beside my driveway then the wife just helped me roll it in. The entire trailer also dumps, so when I unloaded on flat ground, I tied a larger rope on the base of the splitter and wrapped it around the rail of the front gate several times and used that friction to slowly lower it out. To load it back in, I'm going to have to use a come-along. He lives about 35-40 minutes from me and I didn't want to tow it that far. Maybe you guys could give me your advice on that. Being the wheels are bushings and not bearings I didn't know the limitations so I leaned on the side of safety.

Good call...that's further than I would want to try for sure...I towed mine home from the store, but it was only 8-9 miles, and I took all back roads, low speed.

Tell him to strip the suspension out of a junk yard f150 and put that thing back to a respectable stance. Fix the engine or pull one at said junk yard while there or get a long block to cram back into it. The old stuff is cheap to work on easy to fix and will just last!

This comment confirms ya don’t live in the rust belt!
Here under a vehicle at junk yard, is junk or rusted beyond use. Usually what puts them in junkyard

Yeah, that's the truth. His trucks body has "patina" w/ many holes.

He says the old thing is a keeper. Will definitely get it back up and running but I don't see him ever using it for wood duty.

Yep your right! When I do see those late 00s and early teen trucks rusted out in the wheel wells I try to take pictures of them cause it's so crazy to us. We just don't see that type stuff down here! I don't know how you can deal with that. I guess that's one reasons most northern areas have a higher rate of pay. I couldn't afford to be buying all that many vehicles! I daily drive a 22 year old Highlander and the wife drives a 19 year old Sequoia . I know Toyotas are usually better in those aspects than other brands sometimes (yes I know about the Tacoma frame issues)

Next step in helping my son and his fiancé is sorting his flue. I posted these pics elsewhere:
    2A8D1915-4645-4995-B90F-3918A71D4FA5.jpeg

This was looking into the horizontal pipe that went into the wall. Just stuffed in there to the masonry chimney.

    0C3DAF97-99BA-472B-AF25-594DC5E3AE74.jpeg

Pretty scary. He burned twice not knowing what was in there. He believed the realtors who told them the chimney was cleaned prior to the sale of the house. :jaw: I considered them very lucky.

Moving forward… I advised we install a liner. Just found him one on FBMP and he’s picking it up this evening.

Seller posted where they bought it from:

$300 seemed a deal compared to what I was seeing everywhere. And I just ordered this:

    BF842635-282B-4773-A476-F0ABFE060264.jpeg

Should have everything needed to get him squared away from inside thimble and up. He just needs new single wall for up and over and a 90 degree elbow. Will report back when we make progress.

And and all tips for inserting wrapped liner are welcome. When I helped my dad he went w/o insulation so we just fed it down the flue.

Looks like you have a good plan, and are working it...that wood on the wall will need trimmed back further since that's singlewall (18" CTC required) or I might do something like use doublewall stovepipe for the horizontal there (6" CTC) and then put some of that wrap over the pipe where it goes though the wall...you could even additionally stuff some rockwool in there where the wood is at (it would be behind the trim cover, so you would not see the insulation)

When they got the place, he found all kinds of burnt/semi-burnt "stuff" in the wood stove. I'm sure the PO was clueless after seeing that single wall just pushed in the thimble unsealed. Who does that?? :hair:

Again, thanks for advice Dave, it is greatly appreciated. Several months ago I had him buy a tee and a cap that was on MP for dirt cheap, so we have this:
    upload_2023-9-12_12-19-56.jpeg
I can definitely trim some of the wood back and I'm pretty certain my dad has leftover Rockwool to use for around that horizontal section. Not sure on connecting that to double wall. I'll get him to measure to see if that's an option. That would absolutely give piece of mind...
