You need to do a thread “the March to 2300”. That is a chit ton of wood.

    Yeah it is…

I talked with the guy I’m getting the wood from in April..

“is that all you want? I will likely have 3 times that much in the next 4-6 years…”:eek:o_O:picard:

He’s got a list of 20+ farms right now he’ll be clearing off the trees right now. About 50-75 acres a year.

    Nah…. I’m good. I’m TRYING to retire.

    Got a holzforma G660

    for several reasons;
    1. Need a mill saw
    2. Need a big wood saw
    3. Don’t care to destroy a $1600 saw
    4. Want to learn more about modifying saws
I keep hearing how they are light oilers for 28”+ bars then there’s porting and big bore kits.

been watching this and others series

Parts are supposed to be delivered before the power head

Chances of nuking a G660 while milling are going to be much higher than if using the real thing. Hopefully the QC is better on the G660 than it is/was on the Farmertec 660 DIY kits, those were spotty as heck. I built one as a big wood saw some years back because, it was super cheap (pre CV19) and I only planned on using it a couple times per year, which has turned out to be the case...it probably doesn't even have 10 tanks through it yet...I haven't had any major problems, but I also inspected each and every part, swapping some out for Stihl, and modding others to make them work, hopefully long term. One of the worst offenses I found right off the bat was the piston skirt had light contact with the crank...not good for longevity!
My prediction is that #4 on your reason list will come true over time.

Also missing one of the nuts for the outside dog I need to grab when I go to town today.

    Kind of a surprise…

Well it’s not the rugged made 728 I wanted, but it will have to do for the interim. I am thinking it will be the core donor for like a super split or axis type project.

    Has a 24” cycle. About 10-11 seconds.

What I learned prior to purchasing this one. The box store splinters are all pretty much a YTL, Longi or a third brand I forget. YTL International seems to be the most prevalent.

so it comes down to finding the model you want, for the price you want. Most of the box stores now have the 25-ton model’s between $1500-1800 dollars. Our local Runnings Farm and Fleet have this model listed at $999. The engine shows an emissions year of 2021. So it’s likely when these inventories are gone, you will see a significant price increase.

I opted to go this route for now because I don’t know when rugged made is going to release their new 800 series line that people are being asked and giving input for. This country pride should carry me to its release.

If fire wood really takes off, it might justify a Wolfe Ridge 28pro model or similar instead

Ran about 35 miles to get this from a local TSC store.

fits perfectly. YTL models are virtually the same as far as accessories too. There’s a 4-way wedge I’ll eventually get too knowing this now too.

went and compared “model numbers “ on the 25-t county line splitters they had there vs what I bought.

$1450 price tag vs the $999 price tag I paid. Otherwise it’s the same thing.

I’ll take video and more pictures tomorrow. Plan is to clean up the six totes and also get the wood split and maybe lay out pallets Saturday before it turns to total mud. Once I get the totes out of the trailer I’ll work on splitting into the snow bucket and fill the trailer and then fill the totes. I should be able to get 4ish cords done doing that.

I bought one of the log catchers for my CL 25 ton. Haven't tried it yet. I'm thinking my splitting area will be dry enough by Sunday.

Just need a pair of 3/4” wrenches for the bolts to secure it.

    The results of todays efforts.

The yard ruts are just the results of tipping the totes and lift the bladders out of them. Yeah, not going to be doing much until things finish drying up.

used about 2.25 gallons to make about 2 cord of wood today. There was a LOT of extra walking due to the desire to not use the skidsteer in the yard right now. I easily see a conveyor in the near future too.

I’d say the pile is more 1/3 gone than half. There’s a lot more splitting to do. All of the cherry still needs to be bucked and stacked as well.

This is the difference in the buckets I have for the skidsteer.
