I hear ya...I saw one at Dennis GTG with x-sausage added. That was a screaming little saw. Reason I wanted one. But the XS 4910 has a good home, Kevin gets about 40% gain on those......its running a 20" , .325 chain on it
I’ll just add 15 nuts and bolts to this non functional chain brake. What’s a few extra grams on a 288 anyway.
Finally got a chance to run my McCullough pro Mac 10-10 this afternoon. It’s kinda a fun play thing. But I wouldn’t want it to be my only saw. I’m thinking it’s still tuned pretty fat.
The XS4910 got the call yesterday. It tasted some big hickory and like it. Had the 20" bar buried, didn't back up at all. It's got some torque. It was 4 stroking some through the first couple tanks, it started waking up on the 3rd tank... Super job, huskihl I'll get the video loaded later. Still running the chipper chain that came with it. Got some Oregon LGX chains coming.
Idk.... I'm too cheap and impatient to send a saw off for porting. As strange as it may seem, I'm not all that keen on the extra noise of modded saws.....I had my 372xp ported back in 09 for a timber falling job I was doing, but now I almost never run it because it's so doggone obnoxious.....no question it's got lots of extra guts.... but, man it's loud.
Put a stock muffler on it. it'll still run like a banshee. I modded one to the extreme to play around at a gtg and it was obnoxious. Put a pipe style unmodded one on it afterwards and it stayed like that. It still pulls like a ported saw.
I noticed the torque as well. I can lean pretty hard on the 501 compared to my Mki 550. 550 is faster, stock for stock. I'm at about 20 tanks now on the 501 and it has come around nicely.
Made a few cuts this afternoon..... pretty impressive just as it is! Running 20" .325 husky x-cut sp33g chain.....if anybody has not tried that stuff yet, do so..... very good chain right out of the box.
