With the latest trend of “smash & grab” thefts being reported, I’m thinking of ways to keep a saw in the truck locked up. Maybe something as simple as a chain and padlock wrapped around the drivers seat base/leg with the saw in the back floorboard. I want to keep a saw with me for those stumbled on hoards but also don’t care to lose one if I’m away from the truck somewhere parked. Anybody locking their saws up? Lenny PS no toolbox in the back. Leaves room for more cargo (like firewood)! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is a worry of mine. Many times, I have to plan my day ahead as far as saws if I want to run to the store or whatever after working in the woods. I usually only pack one saw if I have errands to run after so I can toss it on the passenger side floor. Thankfully my area has not devolved into a smash grab just yet, but I'm sure someone would love to grab a $600+ saw out of my bed, given opportunity. Sounds odd, but this is one of the reasons I want to get a 4Runner. I can throw 2 or 3 saws in the back and let them hide behind the window tint with a towel or something over them. I'm wary of leaving so much as a 2 gallon can of gas in the bed in a parking lot these days and if I have saws in the truck I don't like to get out of line of sight.
I was planning on leaving my MS250 in the truck for the occasional " damm I wish I had my saw " moment but have decided against it. Not a high dollar saw but for some reason it didn't feel right. No way I would leave anything in the bed that I cared about , at that point I might as well just leave the keys in it. Unfortunately times have changed.
That’s pretty much what I do . I have Labs that like to ride in the truck . They aren’t the neatest rear seat passengers . So, I have an assortment of old towels ,and sheets that I keep back there . It’s pretty easy to disguise a saw back there by covering it with a large towel .
I have Trailer Racks lock cage in my truck. Wont hold a BIG saw and you loose a little bed space, but you keep your saw.
I had a piece of chain and a combination lock looped through a tie down in the bed. After a while got to be a PITA as i had to climb in the truck as it couldnt be reached from the side. Hadnt used it in a while and forgot the combination. Smaller saws go in the cab. My truck is higher so hard to see any saws in the back. Plus my truck is a POS so not a prime candidate for theft. Keys are left in it all the time too.
