I found a Farmi jl500 3 point tractor winch for sale locally. One owner since new. Asking price is $900. It's rusty on the outside and parked against a cedar tree. I haven't looked at it up close in person. I did find old manual online. Anyone have experience with one and how to rebuild the clutch if needed?
simple and dependable ! If it's not cracked, bent or structurally rusted it's a good price. Clutch is on drum, large and slow and can be slipped for long periods.
Well, in just a few hours of posting another guy has dibs on it till Sunday when he can come look at it. Such is life. If he needs it, wants it, more than me so be it. There isn't that many small tractor skidders around here. I messaged the gentleman on a logging group when he posted the same question with the ad pictures. I shared what information I had about the setup. No hard feelings. Something else will come along.
my budget skidder for a small tractor. New home made toy for my 3 point hitch I put this together on a budget and it works well for me, but there is no winch. I have a cable and chains that I use to pull stuff up out of ravines and such then back up and hook on. It's not as efficient as a winch, but it is low budget. I have several more of the steel battery bases that this is made from. I just welded some attachment points to it and cut notches for the chains.
Seller informed me first guy bought it. I expected to have to tear it apart and lube/replace bearings and the main line. Like I said if someone else in the area needs it to log and earn some money for their family than the deal has worked out the way it should. I have a similar 3 point skidding device. I made it a year or so ago. I need to add plate inside the openings to keep logs from possibly sliding through into the pto. I could build a hydraulic skidder with a winch I have but the price of the Farmi was cheaper than my time and steel needed to build one.
I bought my Farmi used, about 15 years ago, for $900. It was out in the weather, propped up on a stone wall. I’ve kept it under an overhang, and only have replaced the control rope. They are tough. I wish mine had a butt plate to hold back logs as I skid downhill on ice.
