I don’t know. The ol Black Locust came in handy during that cold spell we had. Put two stacks on either side of the stove and just laid back. I even touched off the old disconnected wood furnace in the basement with some too long for prime time mixed hardwood splits. Almost killed myself with the heat Woman was happy tho. But oak works too. It is that old friend that won’t leT you down.
You know for once I agree with him... I'll say it since I've been doing it lately. Got a bunch of wood in rounds but not yet split. Waiting for things to dry up and get more light around here. By the time I'm home, sun's down.
Methinks I should continue the dead oak hoarding at least for the short term. One can't really have too much oak firewood. I might cut a little more at noon today, considering the saw is still in my truck
That stinks. Not that red is bad but i can relate. Reminds me of that cut i had last May where the TP turned out to be cottonwood. I did like the record drying time on that CW though.
4 more red oak rounds today. Not bad for the 15 minute window I had to get them. Might get more on Sunday if it’s not all frozen to the ground.
Hey Eric, that twisted vine in the first picture would be worth taking home. Make a neat walking stick or some other cool craft!
I should go back there and cut it at ground level anyway; that’s invasive tree-choking oriental bittersweet. I had some in my backyard that was 4” diameter when I killed it. I like your idea though! With my arthritis I could use a cane some days
Don't think it's too bad, use saw to cut little trees off the root ball, then grapple should handle the rest. Worst part will be the long tractor ride back to the trailer with it.
