Been thinking about redoing my immediate use racks. Wanting something a little more enclosed at least on 3 sides. I saw and add on marketplace for a bundle of cedar first cuts for $25. Figured those would work well for what I wanted.

Went and picked up a bundle yesterday and while I was there the owner asked if burnt wood and where did I get it. I said I do and I scrounge my wood. He said well I'll make you a deal. He has a bunch of hard wood that need split. I bring the fuel, he lets me use his splitter on site and we split the wood 50/50. I told him "I'm in". Now as soon as the weather and some business needs get wrapped up I'll be out there splitting free wood that's 7 miles from home. I'll post up pictures when I get started. Here's a couple from the cedar bundle.

Sounds like a good deal to me. How much wood do you think you will get out of it? I like the idea of that cedar for rack siding!

Hard to say really. Based off the piles he has setting around I'd guess 10 plus cords. He said most of it comes from local parks, camp areas. They pay him to take the wood.

Would like to find a deal like that! A lot of tree trimming services in my area also sell firewood. Getting paid twice for the same wood.

Here is a sample of the cedar first cuts. There is at least 20 of these clean boards in the bundle. The rest are barked but will work for what I want.

Well I finally made it back to the sawmill today. Split and cut for about 4 hour's. I'd say it was a success and I'll definitely be going back.

When I left I told the owner I left him a pile of splits 50/50. He said I didn't need to do that all he wanted was a some splits in left. I felt 50/50 was the right thing to do at least for the first time out .

50/50 was the smart thing to do. :salute: It establishes your credibility. I wouldve done the same.

Looks like fun day. Id be awestruck at the mounds of logs and wouldnt know where to start. Did it seem like you even dented the pile when you finished?

Not really buZZsaw BRAD. When I was getting started he jokingly said if you finish this pile I'll bring you some more.
