I'm currently doing a remodel on the master bed and bath in my house. Had to move a wall to make the bathroom a little bigger and found this. Back when lumber was good and they were proud to put their name on it. Just look at how many "grains" per inch. Good luck finding anything like this at the box stores east of the Mississippi. I'm going to guess it's Doug Fir? This stuff is so much nicer to work with than the junk 2x4s from the box stores.
Another vote for old growth Douglas Fir. Good on you for recognizing its worth. I have some I saved from the landfill, just waiting for the right project.
They Still put their name on it, it's just in ink vs a stamp. Everything is done cheaper. Cheaper for a stamp rolling in ink vs a stamp that hammered into each board I guess . As far as better more dimensionally stable wood, we sure had more back then .
