My MIL's car mysteriously broke and nobody can seem to fix it imagine that.
We told her it would be a waste of money to fix it.
One less thing we have to worry about.

Went through it with my grandfather (physical) and grandmother (mental) the physical decline while heartbreaking is much easier to deal with.

With my grandmother numerous events made it clear she could not safely live alone/unsupervised any longer, we made several changes that allowed her to remain in her home for nearly two more years. Those were very challenging but good years for her and us. Ultimately she required more than what my sisters and I could provide and still care for our own families.

My recommendation would be get his family/friends/church/doctors involved to discuss if steps need to be taken to keep him happy at home. Even if his personal risk is increased cause no matter what we are not getting out of this world alive!

It's good to see that you are a caring enough person to observe, monitor and find the need to vent because of another's well being.
    Some could give a chit.
    Some find it humourous.
    Good on you Dave.

When/if I ever get to be that age, I'm going to keep a very low profile and not jack up any credit cards. ;)

3 years ago I watched my grandfather during his last months here; it wasn't pretty. The man who was once the well-respected First Selectman of his community, small business owner, avid golfer, hunter, angler, party host, etc. reduced to a shell of his former self, unable to control his bodily functions. Then the outbursts of frustration when he was vividly aware of himself and his situation...

I refuse to be railroaded and forced against my will into captivity when the time comes. I'm going to slip away on my own terms.

Sounds like you'll just have to keep running around effecting damage control until a solution is found.
Shame so many around him appear to be too busy struggling to make ends meet to care.

I didn’t notice in your post if this gentleman has any family left, local or long distance? Good on you Yooper for caring for this man. Most people just look the other way and say “Not my problem”. What most of them don’t realize is that it’s more likely than not they may very well be in the same situation one day.
