Just catching up on this. Nice Winter day to be out cutting.

Dad gets all the smalls? Is he still able to split his own yet? Did they end up getting an insert?

Cool on seeing the eagle. I love nature stuff when "in the field" cutting.

Yep, they are getting all small stuff. I'm so packed with wood, that "small" stuff is growing to sizes pictured. I cut theirs to 16" too for the insert. They didn't get a bigger one yet. The place my mom worked for the past 25 years burnt to the ground a couple weeks ago, so money is tight atm.

Dad turned 78 last month. He could split by himself but I won't let that happen. I worked like heck today to load up all the bigger piece so he wouldn't get to them. He used my Husky log tongs and told me they're amazing. Backwoods Savage dad loves 'em.

Happy to hear that. Tell your Dad I am 80 and would really hate to work without those log tongs.

No air in the bags and I bumped the stops 3 times.

Talked my wife into coming along. It’s always nice to have someone along.:)

I sure do miss wood’n with my boy! :( That was great times and I hope he feels the same. I always let him run saws as much as possible.

Back today for a big load and finished getting all I will on that tree. Tops are just too far gone plus I had to carry everything through the woods about 40 paces.

Checked 2 pieces for MC. This was a dead standing chestnut oak. Dead long enough for the top to be totally decayed.

You did a lot of work to get that load. Glad that finished the tree up. Hope you can back up to the next one.

Nice load again The Wood Wolverine. My next round I will have to move wood from the cut to the truck either carry or wheelbarrow unless I can drag it first. I'll do it though for shagbark.

Me too! With the lay of the land there wasn’t an opportunity to roll rounds either.
Yeah, I’d not complain one bit for shaggy!

The loads that I got the last 2 weekends require some legwork...in the 40-100' range to the truck...what I have been doing is to cut my rounds double long (32" in this case...smaller diameter stuff I'll even go 64" long) and then stick a pickeroon in the end of 2 rounds, the drag them back to the truck by skidding the butt end on the ground...that way you are getting at least 4 rounds worth to the truck with each trip. When I unload them they go straight onto a bucking horse to be cut in half, then to the splitter.
Here is the pickeroons that I have...they work pretty darn well for this purpose, up to about 12" diameter stuff, bigger than that it works better for single length rounds...still nice because you get two rounds to the truck each trip, without actually carrying them, and you don't have to bend down to grab them either...plus "skidding" a round on each side keeps a balanced load on your back too.

That's the one I have and it works great. I never thought about getting a second one... HHHMMMM...

Our neighbors with 130 acres of nice timber are logging out their woods. One of my other neighbors and I have permission to go in and get tops. Many of the White Oak tops are bigger than many of the trees on our place!!! I wish I had more time to work on it. That woods hasn't been timbered for close to a hundred years. There is some awesome timber in there.

I see Jason's loads of Oak and drool over the firewood and lumber that can be made from that stuff!!!

    Nice job guys.

Do you prefer the picks over the tongs?

That sounds like an awesome deal.
I'm very fortunate! My first post on this thread was made 7/10/19. Coming up on 4 years of pulling oak from Tony's property.

I like pickeroon over tongs myself when schlepping rounds. Tongs are too clumsy IME.
