Is there anything due south of you that could produce that dust?

Not that I'm aware of. Never seen anything like this before, other than when everything's in bloom in the spring.

If this happened the night of Feb, 16th, it would seem that the front that pushed through here would have blocked anything from blowing that far east.

Keep in mind, this is my opinion and I DID NOT stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night either, but I do know that atomized particles go very high into the atmosphere and can go great distances before eventually settling back down to earth. Just the lack of another reasonable explanation has me thinking this came from the train wreck. I get what you're saying about the wind direction/weather front thing though. I wonder if this stuff is coming from the upper levels of the atmosphere, but I'm just a simple blue collar guy.

I saw some eastern red cedars releasing pollen the other day. I was surprised, seems very early for that. Not saying thats what the pic is, just saying....

We had a few showers go through yesterday ~7pm. I just checked and there's nothing like that on our vehicles.

    More rain this morning.

Their is a local retired chief ranting about how they didn't need to light it off, it was a way to save money.
That I believe for sure, it would have been major dollars to have that removed and probably would have shut the city down for the entire time.
I myself do not think they did nearly enough to attempt to control or put it out.
Where was the foam? The planes? We have heavy rescue 40 minutes away that could have been sent. Instead my township that is understaffed and generally shuts
1 station down a few times a month sends a crew there to stand around and eat donuts and leaved the township even more understaffed.
    Edit to add
Heavy rescue is the air base fire squad, they were never sent to my knowledge but they do get sent out to local events to cover other stations or if needed in general.

you have to type outside the quote brackets so your post doesn't get sucked into the quote.
Probably not much. Yet they don't need to spend millions right now right away. They didn't have to find a place to take it or pay for its disposal.
Now they can drag it out thru the courts for decades.

More than likely they're going to try to get out of paying anything. Probably claim some kind of law, code or protection of some kind....

You have major jurisdictional issues taking federal units for an issue that should be national guard. Title 10 (federal duty) vs title 32 (state duty) orders etc. lot of this stems under the posse comitatus act.

then who was making the request? Mayor can’t ask for squat, it would’ve had to come from the sheriff himself.

All I know is they provide support to the community in exchange for the community support they get.
They don't get called out often but I have seen them hauling arse down the highway more than a handful of times.
What the law is or requirements I don't know and don't care to be honest.

Yes, all depends on who's running what, as what kind of incident. Also with mutual aid agreements, MOA's, MOU's, EOC's etc etc.....
