Cut a tall 16" diameter Red Maple down that was right beside my cabin. Counted rings it was 135 years old. Bucked and split this fall, got around to stacking it yesterday. Came out to a little over 1/2 cord, and while stacking found 2 nails near tree center that somehow got missed by the chainsaw. Usually not that lucky! The one was a real close call. The 2 ranks in the back are the maple. DSC01377.JPG DSC01375.JPG DSC01376.JPG

Wow. 135 and only 16". The one monster oak I cut, if I recall, was 118yrs and my 42" bar wasn't long enough.

The second one looks a little bit like a flat cut flooring nail.
Hard to tell from a pic. It could be round and just big.

It was round. Cabin was built in 1935, I have not found any flat cut nails in it.
