Finally got up into the woods and whacked this oak. Will grab top for firewood once mud season is over. Tried the notch, plunge cut the back with a 1-2 inch hinge, followed by completing back cut seemed to work okay as it didn’t peel. Mill it once the weather turns. Thinking I have two 9 footer s there, log is egg shaped but around 30 inches on the long face

Looks like excellent mill fodder. If it turns out to be poor lumber it will still burn nice.
Still looking for that new 500i to see some action! ;) :saw:

WOW! Is there a BHC somewhere? Maybe a bourbon hoarding thread?

Whats the value of an unopened bottle of 1969 Jim Beam worth? I know noting about it and never really drank the stuff. It was a baseball's 100th anniversary commemorative bottle.

Yes most trees that have a hard lean usually have a lot of stress most of the time the pith is not centered and on the one side you have compression stress (Downhill side ) when you saw it most times it moves a lot . Also sometimes it seems to be fine but when it dries it moves and or checks bad JB

Worst case is you will have to sell the lumber to LOWE'S if it is too crooked to use   I have been sawing for a while and wood always surprises me sometimes the junk logs make some nice wood and I have had what looked like perfect logs make rocking chair wood that is one of the things that make sawing so interesting you do not know until you open it up JB
