@WeldrDave Saw your post about Groton..My son works as an engineer for Electric Boat Works..what a beautiful place..he actually gets to go out in the sub for 10 days for testing! He loves it up there...this from a kid who was born in Tucson and grew up here in Atlanta!

Wow! I know EB like the back of my hand! I was an Instructor at the CG Acadamy and would speak with some of the good folks from there from time to time. Maybe I bumped into your son… I worked in the Mechalical Engineering lab, I was the welding instructor/metal fab guy in the lab. Small world:)! I lived right in Groton, on the edge of Mystic. Sailed the Thames river "MANY MANY" times past EB.

I've lived and traveled all over NH. If I were to retire there it would be in the area King Realty serves (Campton, Plymouth, Ashland). I second that suggestion completely.
It has space (still), mountains, outdoor recreation, music, culture, healthcare access, and Boston/seacoast is still a day trip.

He started there about 3.5 years ago out of Georgia Tech - Mechanical Engineering...he can't talk much about what he does (clearance) but I think he works with sonar. He did tell me that if he goes into the shop he is forbidden to even pick up a tool - they tell him the problem and he has to write up a solution and send it back ( union rules).

I can understand the Ma. thing. NH has some nice communities less than an hour from the water. Southeastern NH can put you at the coast in no time, and the other direction get you to the lakes region and mountains. Are you going to be transferring work to a different location? Biggest complaint I hear from NH residents is the property taxes since there is no sales tax.

But you gotta love "live free or die". I am only 5 minutes from the NH border, so I lean more towards their way of thinking than the rest of the my state, if you know what I mean.

I'd suggest Northern Vancouver Island as we don't get much in the way of winter and you can go fishing almost all year round but it is a little ways away from where you are now.
