Thanks! Wow, nice little truck, I had totally forgot they had a diesel option back then...I was thinking you did a transplant. I had a Bronco II that I did a 302 V8 transplant on...got tired of it after many years and was thinking of doing either a Cummins diesel, or possibly a Perkins, but decided to go to a 4.0 V6 instead...bought a donor Explorer, but the project never happened before selling it all.
I love that Ranger! My first car/truck was a Toyota SR5 diesel (1980 IIRC). It had a hard time keeping its speed up on long hills, but got mid 30's mpg.
Nice. Interesting they tell you to floor the pedal, when starting in real cold weather. What's the "Cold Start Knob" do?
SOP for starting a mechanically injected diesel in cold weather...floor it means more fuel into the cylinders, which means more heat, faster start. As soon as it fires up you let off the throttle to keep it from revving up high while stone cold.
We're getting close to finishing my dad's car. He reupholstered the interior. Having never done one before I think he did a pretty good job.
