The pickaroon is 28 inches so that round is a good 30. Most of the logs are of the pole variety but this one but would make sir mixalot himself happy.
Thats a good way to end a nice Black Locust score. I assume you get a lot of it? For this little cold snap we had come through I had a stack of BL on either side of the stove. Ran the disconnected furnace in the basement too blowing air up the stairs. House got way too hot but the missus liked it.
Locust is a favorite firewood of mine but most of the big ones and even midsize have a lot of rot/dead spots/hollows!! Good habitat for squirrels and screech owls in my yard!! Sometimes you find a locust grove were they are pretty good!! Maybe it’s the soil!!.♂️
Black locust likes to grow within established vines. Most around here, lift the vines up with them, as the bl grows taller. They always are covered with vines - grape vines, briars, bitter sweet....etc
Clickbait title…made me click! This winter has been so mild my wife complains when I throw a piece of locust in the stove. Really heats up the place
Another Sunday making a mess of the locust pile. You wouldn't know it looking but there is a method to the madness. The rot prone stuff gets thrown to the side and the bl which is 95% of this pile can sit right here for a year or two. Finished up with tasty beverage some of you PA boys will recognize.
Aint that great about BL?! I have a couple mounds of bark on splits that never got stacked or covered. I just moved them and a good percentage had the bark come off. The splits on the inside the mound the bark was tight. How much you think you cut today?
No hurry on this stash, I just go visit Mom once a week and while there, run 1 tank thru the 372. This way I’m always fresh and so is the chain. Heck, sometimes I don’t even get a whole tank done before the chain is feeling dull. And as you know, BL is not the species to be attacking with a dull chain. Edited to add there is no shortage of metal in these logs.
