This might be the one time you wish for a PTO that can reverse! If'n yer feelin' handy, you could convert it to hydraulic power via a PowerBeyond kit for the tractor and run it with a reversing valve.

I am not feeling nearly that handy, if it gets stuck in there then I will just hoist them over to the hydraulic splitter. I really don't like dealing with rounds this big, but the trees were already here, so I will... I know how well it will work with smaller stuff as it is, I am just playing around with the idea of getting these giant rounds down to a manageable size for my normal splitters. If it doesn't work out, I will just get some friends together for a few hours, or maybe noodle some of them.

I'm a fan of the noodle method. It's a tool I usually already have with me when dealing with large trees. and it doesn't usually take more than 1 huge, and 2 shorter cuts to get a big round down to manageable size.

Now, I’ve never run one of these, but with a post hole digger you run the tractor just slightly above idle. PTO speed will throw it around and it is useless. Maybe try slowing the PTO speed down and start slower then see how it goes? Hopefully you get it working for you!

They can run as fast as you are comfortable with.
Typically 250-300 RPM is a comfortable hand fed speed. I use the atom splitter and the tip is threaded in so reverse would just leave the tip in the log. You possibly had the wrong pin installed. It needs to be a spiral rolled pin not a typical "C" style pin.

I was wondering what would be the correct pin. I haven't had a chance to hammer out whatever is in there yet, stuck at a swim meet. I'd rather be splitting wood, but gotta keep my stacking crew happy. I'll get it out when I get home, and maybe I can at least size it with the pins I have.

So, I did get the spiral pin, 1/4x1 1/4. Got a few splits, got it stuck twice, then broke the pin again. I would say I am just asking too much of it. Back to the boom pole and hydraulic it is. I'll save the unicorn for lighter duty work.
