Going to be a heatwave… gonna cut rounds all weekend. Probably even haul the snow piles out of the way too.
Bleaeeech… go to start the skidsteer. Plugged it in yesterday… mind you, that was when I filled three of four tires from flat. dead battery. go to hook up the battery charger… positive clip breaks off…. Again. solder it back in. Got it charging. fine.. go to grease the grapple and arms while it’s charging… out of grease… search for the grease. Finally find the grease 1/2 hour later. takes another 15 minutes just to get the Lincoln grease gun to burb itself. Forgot you need to catch the plunger and push to make it quicker. and … now the battery on the grease gun is dead… At least it was still only 5*F outside. I think I’ll put the new skip chain on the 362 and touch up the depth gauges for today with all the 20” pieces I need to cut. Gives me something to do while waiting on chargers.
It’s a 2000 model with 2460 hours on it… but still… we’ve also had a solid 10 days again of not seeing temps over -3*F and lows around -15*F at night. so the dead battery doesn’t surprise me… I’m guessing the tires are also 23 years old as well. And actually expecting to replace them based on age alone. Boyle’s law comes into play here as well for typical Arctic operation.
Yep. Pretty amazing really what they can do. We had a crown boiler like this installed decades ago at the cabin. Actually, dad and I installed it together.

Today is taking care of a whole list of chores. Feeding wood boiler, feeding animals at -27 early, helping son get his truck squared away, grocery shopping for all of us, chicken feed pick up. Done. This afternoon will be getting cleaned up and taking it easy while watching my youngest play her trumpet. She was selected to sing for the All County Chorus and that was done already. Now is the All County Band. Should be a good concert. We are picking up my Mother and Sister for that.
Pushing 30’s through early next week west of the twin cities. looks like I need to go acquire a new battery for the skid steer which is cutting into my saw time though.
Big difference between the 773 and a 770. The 773 is about the smallest of the mid frame skid steers. think S185 or S510 vs S770. Wish I could justify a S770.
Very capable machines. My only experience with bobcat, not the most comfortable machine to work on that’s for sure. It was just a thought to get things rolling.
I’ve got a jump pack on the semi. Could have used it. Didn’t consider it though. my charger needed to be fixed anyway since I plug the semi in when I’m home for more than 34-hour reset. I have a spare group 27 battery from when I had the boat and this is mounted up with the original battery on the camper….110 miles away at the Woodlot. most of the issues are just coming off a 9-day subzero cold snap again and doing routine regular maintenance. Grease the machine etc. some of it is just dealing with the trials and tribulations of a “new to me” 20-year old machine. It’s got a ford Motorcraft battery in it now that it’s up and running. Having a minimal room because I have a half dozen pallets on edge by the back of the machine isn’t making life easier… I need my work shop at the Woodlot….
