Good Morning, our low last night was -18, it's still about 12 below last I looked. Oak and Hickory now, and my porch wood box is empty.

-18*c, 0*f, took the grandkids to swimming lessons this morning, Man it's cold, now home. 75* love our Napoleon S25 woodstove, now off to a customers cottage to check on a "No Heat" alarm again, GEO Thermo keeps failing, I hope the electric back up is working. It's a Great day in Beautiful Muskoka!

If it would just stay cold enough to keep the ground frozen until it's ready to thaw for spring I'd be happy.

11 out when I got up. Getting up to the low to mid 30's today. Filling up the wood boxes at the house are on my agenda today. Hope to get most of it done before the ground gets a bit slick due to melting snow.

    I have a little 20kw with a onan 4 cylinder diesel. 20230131_150441.jpg
The little gas genny is backup if I failed to plug in the block heater before the power goes off. It's easy to start and will preheat the main generator.
It's fully manual, starting, switching from the grid. When you have to have power or you might die or freeze your plumbing (being dramatic) I'd rather not count on some automatic chit having a bad circuit because of a local lightning strike or surge, etc. and I'm at the mercy of some service tech being able to visit in 4 days from now and possibly be waiting for (days? ) for replacement parts.
In the summer we don't worry about power until we start worrying about our freezers full of meat:yes:, any weather below 30* is another thing completely.

-12'F Friday night here on the Ma/NH border and then this Saturday morning -16'F at 7:22AM. It's warmed up to +9'F at 3PM today and the weatherman said we might get into the 40s tomorrow. In central Massachusetts where I am on the Ma/NH border it'll be in the low 30s.

I hit the ash score for a short while. I had a buncha cutting I found to do and ran a tank and a half through the 460.
I had sweats, jeans, insulated overalls, and chaps, and I still swat (sweated). Took the heavy coat off and was a bit better.
The maul got some exercise and i stayed warm, all in 11 degrees. Not bad.

35/70 heading for 28 overnight. Just got some ash and maple up to temp. Took some ashes out and brought some wood in this afternoon. Disappointing day as the ground was frozen and saws were sharpened, had my sights set on some nice red oak. Came home yesterday from work early with a stomach bug, really rough but I guess at least it was short lived. Now it looks like rain and soft ground again.

When it is this cold, frozen pipes suck. Use all you got so pipes don't freeze, oil, gas, wood, pellets.

15 and steadily rising until tomorrow afternoon when we’re supposed to hit the mid 40s. What a strange winter indeed. Coal bed is getting deep. Monday is forecasted to hit near 50 so that’ll be clean out day. Currently burning a mix of Shagbark hickory and black locust.

It has warned up to 11 this evening. Elm and Ash in the Wood Gun. Looks like it will be 25 by 7am and close to 40 by 3pm.
