Love me some sass. Love sniffing it even more. Need more SS wood here and would love to get my hands on some.

Good luck if you process Saturday. Supposed to be very cold.

Very true. Headed out to cut this afternoon. Temps started in upper 20's and have dropped a bit already. Wind is picking up. Been outside for a bit.

Actually i need frozen ground for what im doing the next couple days and this may be my last chance this winter.

Kind of a dumb question, but will you vary species based on outdoor temp or just open the door and toss in whats next in the stack? Is there a shoulder season for OWB"s?

    Yes.

If it's -20 out and there's a piece of hedge next to a piece of pine I'll grab the hedge...but I'm not going to dig through the pile to get higher BTU wood...I'll just throw a couple extra pieces on to make up the difference.

If I'm going to be gone for a while (24-48 hours) I'll pack it tight with the good stuff, even if I have to dig for it.

For me, I burn junk right off of the wagon until Jan 1, in rainy spells I take a little from the lean to. But Jan 1 on I grab whatever is next and vary load based on what I have and outside temps. I try to gauge so that when I come out in morning furnace is 160-170 (meaning can’t quite keep up) and nearly empty but with good coal bed, then reload

I like sassafras. Like it's been said, smells good and a pretty good SS wood.

Be sure to save some wood for the spring split-a-thon.
