Thanks for that. Seems it does deserve a little more respect than it gets. I burned quite a bit in the pit. Gave a cord away for free. This spring it was the only shoulder season wood I brought in. After the first fire I decided it was no longer going in the pit. I agree it burns clean and gives off decent heat. No coaling stage to speak of but sometimes that’s a good thing. When it’s really cold out I don’t want a coaling stage. I’m better off refilling the stove faster.
Well Cash out here in this part of the country I even like to burn cottonwood. So, it is a matter of what part of the country you are from and what is available. I do not recall ever seeing any TOH around here. If I had I would probably like it too.
I hear ya, buddy. I burn a fair amount of Cottonwood as well. I will pretty much burn anything I can get my hands on. I have what some might call a firewood hoarding problem. Pine and Douglas Fir are an effortless grab around here, but I like a little variety. I’d bet a year’s pay, that you have Tree of Heaven in your suburban and urban areas in Wyoming. TOH is everywhere in the Denver metro. TOH is incredibly hardy. It will grow pretty much anywhere. We don’t have it at my altitude yet, but ya never know. I wouldn’t be surprised if it shows up someday. Check out this video. It shows how tough/invasive this stuff is.
Ha ha. Good point. Sorry for hijacking your thread. I get excited when someone posts firewood that I am familiar with. Most of the wood that you guys post on here, I’ve never even seen.
No hijack at all. I enjoy seeing the species that i dont see around these parts. Of course we get excited about anything about firewood! Aint it great?
