I don't want any cords around anything that can cut it in half. An old boss cut my sawzall cord in half on a roof job once. It happens.

Negative. Especially since for the same money at the time I could buy a brand new 592:loco:

I'm going to try the HF 40 volt saw this year. I don't expect it to replace my big gas saw for the big jobs, but I expect it to take the place the small gas saw. It's cheap enough that I can justify the expense, even if ends up being generally a novelty. I expect it'll find a useful place in my wood cutting activities.

I try to laugh at folks who like the smell and noise and maintenance and life philosophy of gas stuff, rather than be irritated. It's hard, but I try. There were plenty of folks who were irrationally emotional about horses as they were being replaced by cars, too.

Plus, less money and power for Putin and the Saudis can't be a bad thing.

Hahaha, not me, I don't like horses! They take up resources that should be making beef!

Not 40v but this past summer my uncle and I did clean up at the lake resort our families vacationed at for a week.
We bucked and split 2 cords over the week using a 60v Dewalt saw running the battery down twice day. I'd buck a load in the morning before breakfast and my uncle would do one before supper. I was pretty impressed with the torque. With a sharp chain I could even bury the 16 inch bar in dead red oak and it would chew right through.

Definitely slower chain speed than gas, and the full bar cuts drained a battery pretty quick, but honestly, for my slow and steady style of firewooding (6 cord a year with year round scrounging a pickup load at a time) a quality battery saw would be all I need.

You sound just like Dad! He even cursed sheep, for the same reason. He marvelled that they could turn grass into something we could eat. Which was a plus for cows, but sheep doing the same thing was bad, because they "ruined the cattle pasture" by biting the grass off too low. He spent his first 15 years on his family's cattle ranch in central NE.

"Eat that, it's the best part" referring to the fat on the steak, before sticking a fork in it and relishing it for himself. Eating like that and smoking a pack of unfiltered Camels for decades, the tough old guy lived to a ripe old age of 88.

There is nothing irrational about the pro gas stance. We like what we like. The feel, sound, the working on them. Thats actually enjoyable for many individuals. Most certainly myself included. Also, for many, battery powered isn't a viable alternative due to their lack of appreciable run time compared to anything gas. My buddy learned his lesson going all battery everything trying to maintain his sizable place. He's come full circle after several years. Except a saw. I do what little cutting he needs.

What saw motor burned out? A Ryobi? HD? Home despot?
Like I said my 40V Ryobi 14" (same motor I believe as the 18" at time I bought mone) w a 18" bar has been going strong for 3 years now 2 charged batteries and that is cutting dry hard oak (we get a lot of snow break limbs about 6-12" in diameter from wet snow here in SW New Mexico) and it cuts just fine, ya cant push em gotta let the chain do the work not the engine as much as gas and yeah sure not as fast as a gas saw but without lag or starting and stopping like many battery tools. I just bought a second saw. I like the fact that I can cut in the National forest (in NM we get 10 cords for 20 bucks) without making a bunch of noise and attracting attention. I highly recommend the 40 V ryobi with 18 bar. I did not notice any more drag w a 18" bar. I can easily cut24" oak and larger but I have 8 batteries now.

Bypass 20 volt! It will not do the job. Ryobi tools are the most under rated batt powered tools ever. I have NEVER had one fail 18V or 40V

True dat about sharp saws cutting wood and flesh and bone! Cool thing about the brushless motors is its immediate shut down of the chain minimizing kickback accidents etc.

He made a comment on battery powered string trimmer and twice my 20v Dewalt string trimmer died in a few uses. Both replaced.
