It's definitely dying and shedding large strips of bark but I'm not sure what it is.

I'm not seeing Elm... but that might be just difference between midwest and East coast....

I thought that at first but I have many of them around the house and this seems different than the rest. I'm going to drop a portion of it tomorrow and will post some new pics.

Where the bark has fallen away at the limb attachment looks like elm to me.

That's what I'm thinkin. Bark looks to thin to be maple and definitely looks papery n not ridged.

It does resemble a soft maple a little bit, but that large “Y” where the trunk forks off says elm all day long.

Where the bark was falling away was what makes me think it’s elm. Here’s one I removed a few weeks ago that had the same look. 9AF56120-5C3A-47FB-8D37-8F1147CA5823.jpeg

Doesn’t look very “silvery” though. Could be a Red maple. Not a whole lot of difference here, other than the silver color being evident in a silver maple

I didn't get around to making any cuts. It rained all day. Maybe this weekend...

Not this guy but could be a relative, probably not though. It's a popular name originating from the Czech Republic kinda like Smith is here in the states.
