Picked up a gallon on sale cheap. Never used it before. Got the no pre mix stuff for 15 bucks for a gallon. Gonna add a bottle if Stihl pre mix. Any comments would be welcome...

I don't but know others that do use it. Their saws are still running last I knew.
Around here in our wonderful state we have no non-E fuel from the pump so unless you travel out of state this is the only way to get it.

I run VP small engine fuel and add my own oil to suit my needs for all my 2 stroke stuff.
I can get it at one of our OPE dealers at a reduced rate. Still not cheap though.
If I cut every day, I might go with regular 10% ethanol pump gas instead.

As you know I mainly run the VP 94 and put my own earl in. I've also used the Sunoco Optima 95 small engine fuel. I just bought a 2.2 gallon can of trufuel to try. Its 92 octane. I'll put a good oil in it. Saws only with the canned fuel as they can set long periods as I rotate through them.

I have rant into true fuel going flat after sitting for a few months. Small engine won’t start, dump out what I know is true fuel and refill with fresh fuel and it started right up. Have seen this several times.

I bought some a few years ago. It was fine.

I saved the two quart cans/bottles that I bought, and use them to fill my saws with fuel and bar oil.

That's a bummer. I guess I best get using it now that it's open. This is the first time buying it to use in my personal equipment.

I'm still using 2 year old VP racing 94 octane small engine fuel without issues. Some mixed, some straight. All from the same 5 gallon metal can. VP claims 5 years in original container, 2 years in the machine's gas tank. I have it in a hedge trimmer I use once a year, for about a tank of fuel, to trim our giant zebra grass once it dormant.

This equipment as long as the truefuel Live in a work truck cube. I suspect the huge temp swings over time may have something to do with it.

Bought the 4 stroke stuff and I'll add the Stihl pre mix bottle and give it a try. I don't use my saws all that much but they do live in a heated and cooled shop. I'll see what happens. Non E gas is hard to get around here.

I can see that. Even gun powder degrades in higher temperatures and it can't evaporate lol.

I have a Honda powered Mantis tiller that gets canned fuel. It sets for 6-8 months between usage. Always fires easily and runs well.

I use Tru Fuel 40:1 mix and I think it's great. It used to be $80/5 gallons, but it jumped to $109/5 gallons a couple months ago.

We have non ethanol fuel around here. Both 87 and 91, but neither last more than 8 months with Stabil before my mowers start running funky. I've had saws sit for over a year with Tru Fuel and they start and run great. It's all I run in my saws, because they do sit awhile sometimes before I use them.

I've never tried the 4 stroke Tru Fuel stuff though. Does the 4 stroke stuff come stabilized?

Edit: Just looked and the 4 stroke stuff does come with stabilizers.

I have a friend who has a fuel station & hauls fuel/gasoline. He told me that while the stuff at the pump is truly ethanol free gas. It has no long term storage additives added to give it a longer shelf life as o it has the same storage life of regular unleaded gas. So according to him when you buy his ethanol, free gas, you have to use it up as quickly as you would. Regular ethanol added gas.

I can't help but wonder, are they changing gas enough, or is it worse quality than years ago, that even with stabilizers it won't last?

In the past, I've ran gas with Stabil, almost 2 years later, no problem.

December '21, is when I got my last e free pump gas, that barely lasted 8 months with Stabil. I upped the amount of Stabil added and refilled those gas cans, so time will tell how well it does.

Maybe Stabil is slipping in quality?

My phone definitely is possessed! Lately in the middle of the night, just sitting there for hours and it starts taking bursts of 20 photos. Sounds like a mini drive by!

I believe it does. I will add the Stihl 50-1 premix. I like the Stihl pre mix bottles (1 gallon mix). Lowes had it half price so I bought a gallon to try. Still expensive however. Like I said, non E gas is basically unobtanium around here and E gas has a bad habit of phase separation.

Stuff (trufuel) has a strange odor. Hope it does what it's supposed to do. I'll find it today. I may drain my other saws and put it in as well. I don't use them much, especially the big ones (075 and 090) so they sit a long time without runnong.

I have run Tru Fuel 50/1 in my four saws and weed eater for years and like it. They store well, start quickly and run smooth during warm up. No complaints here!

I'm fortunate enough to have a nephew that has a small engine repair business. Last 5 gallon can of VP cost me $62. That was a year ago. I'm sure that has went up. The Sunoco Optima 95 small engine fuel was $69 plus tax for 5 gallon can at a local Sunoco gas station. I alway mix my own oil. If you have a Sunoco that sells the 5 gallon cans near you, and don't mind mixing your own oil, might be worth a look.
