While you guys are talking, what’s a good older used saw to watch for to use in a chainsaw mill on Craigslist or FB?
I have a chainsaw mill still in the box I haven’t broke out yet.
I love my new last year 362. So it hasn’t gotten subjected to the milling yet. The 261 and 250 are too small I’ve been told here.
Maybe a 660 or 461/462? See them occasionally.

After buying a 16” skill saw and chain mortiser for my timberframe project, it’s been decided I should slow down on “investments” and speed up a little on the “productions”!

If you are seeing 660's on occasion, that's a pretty good powerhead for a sawmill. Open up the muffler some and make sure the tune is spot on. There are other things you can do to get more power form the 660 powerhead but I'd start with a free-flowing muffler and tune and see how you like it.

Oh yeah - oiler set to max output. I can't remember if the 660s had different oilers for the R versions but if they did and you can score an oiler from one - that's another good mod for a milling saw.

Stihl MS 660, Husqvarna 395xp. The more CC's the better and alot of the older big saws will work.
    I have a Husqvarna 2100 CD that I use and a Poulan 505 that I use.

I also have one of the those 16" skillsaws.

Depends on the size of the timber you will be milling. More CC's is always better. A 661 would be wise purchase (or any of the older versions of one ie 066/660)
