My sister has barn cats and she’s seen skunks feeding along side the cats at the cat bowl.

Seems to be a nightly visitor.......Working on securing the run so he can't even get into that area.

On the positive side once I replaced the door batteries and it's been closing at night I got two eggs already. I guess that predator thing stressing them out really is true........

They are wicked smart and will figure out latches or lift up that auto door ect and kill them all if he gets in. Good luck- they are tricky bastards

I am working on adding hardware cloth to keep him out of the run area. Coop is pretty darn solid, and that auto door locks/latches at the bottom but wouldn't put it past him to break or rip it open. Last year out in the trash going work I found a nicely bundled up with duct tape 4 nice decent sized rolls of hardware cloth. Slammed the brakes on and in the back of truck it went. That stuff can be $$, I'll prob need more to do it right but I saved myself some $$ for sure.

There's two critters you never trust, a bull and a rooster (they have something in common :-0). Trying to tame or make it friendly makes them even more dangerous as you start to trust them. From the pics that rooster didn't peck the kid it spurred it. I'm with the mom, that sucker had to go so why waste the meat... As a kid I had a pet rooster, leghorn I'm told. One day it met my dad on his way to give the horses a coffee can of sweet feed. The neighbors said he was so tough even after going through a pressure cooker that they couldn't chew him.

LOL, I worked at a humane society clinic in my youth and picked up lots of kennel shifts, holidays and weekends I did barn duty and a mean rooster bruised my calf/s deep every single time, and at that age I was quite a fast sprinter! Pffft, we all know why the rooster ended up there. Why it wasn't put down was all of our's question. How he kicked me SO hard every single barn shift I had, still amazes me considering the size difference. Sorry about your leghorn :(

Pretty sure that lady in the article was on the chicken channel I follow, she had each family member carry the rooster around on revolving days and many other ideas to tame him, maybe that made him more dangerous like you mentioned? Imo, it was about time. Any animal that would harm my kids would be gone. We took in a VERY young pregnant stray cat here years ago and after injuring us too many times is now a pampered barn cat.

2 of my hens need saddles I think, a nice lady sent me some but too cold for me to put them on right now, I will soon. Amazingly they seem to be doing okay thankfully. Only 2+ months till it warms up, except microblast season is +/- February, I have my fingers crossed all the anchoring and bracing works!

We used to have a mean rooster. He attacked small children. He attacked me every time I went to the coop. I was gonna do him in, but my 80 year old mother insisted on taking him to my uncle's farm. Well she took another 80 year old woman out to see his new surroundings. He had both woman on the ground and they both came back bleeding. That rooster somehow came up missing that my night. They gotta go when they get that dangerous.

We turn off any aggressive livestock on our farm..... edible animals are not worth the risk of serious injury to people.

I was attacked many times by bad roosters when I was a kid..... one of my fondest memories growing up was the time dad avenged me on one of those meanies!

The first time a roo does the sideways dance that says he's ready to fight it gets the ax. No tolerance at all.

I was sad about the rooster that disappeared when I was a kid. Nobody thought to tell me the truth until I was in my late teens... Didn't upset me in the least.

The hens missing feathers on their backs are the favorites. I've never used saddles but probably should have on a few. Good luck with the winds, hope things stay put.

One of my roosters tried to spur my Chesapeake bay retriever, Maple, and he got it hooked around her collar. He went for a long bumpy ride upside down for quite a distance.

If I wasn't getting to save the roosters leg from snapping in two, I would have got some video. He was a mean one, but great to have around to protect the girls. He fought a fox until I was able to intervene.

I suspect with the chicken industry all screwed up demand will be high for chick's. In contemplating on getting an incubater. Would be a new venture

That would be… my feed store guy has one that he raise game cocks with…. But I can’t have roosters in town… even though a couple of my neighbors do…. Just rather not test that road…

I suspect the chicken feed industry will have supply issues.
