Hiked Mt. Washington 6288'

That's how I went up. That was a great trail!

I HATE going down esp big mountains the train sounds like a good idea next time. I don’t remember amonoosuc having ladders, maybe it’s been re-routed recently.

 

Congratulations Well Seasoned!! That's on me and wife's bucket list someday to hike it (we better make it soon ain't getting any younger). As you already know we just about crossed paths by a week or so up there. Even with the weather, views are incredible, I've never seen anything so grand and majestic......Great job!

 

I know, looking back I regret it! Didn't realize how close I was to you staying in Bartlett. Our trip was so short and packed of activities but I could have surely met up just to say hi and shake hands even if for a couple of minutes. I'll be back up there, no doubt

Hah, I was even closer (you were in my neck of the woods). Hope you had some grub at my friend's restaurant (Cabin Fever).

 

I passed that place a bunch of times but didn't have a chance to eat there. It was down the street from a buddy of mine who lives off River Rd and a local fireman at the station right there not far from Cabin Fever. He said he eats there often! We did grab some grub at the Spaghetti Shed last night we were there, good food!

 

Myself and friends go and stay at a place right on the Kanc. Usually in early November, and again mid-February.

Well Seasoned has come to visit in the past. He even lived to talk about it!

 

River Road is about a mile away from me so I know the area well. The Spaghetti Shed is a staple up here (although I haven't been there in many many years).

Well Seasoned may have lived, but was he ever the same??

Usually by November the state has shut down Bear Notch Road so depending on which side of the Kanc you are on it's an all-the-way around trip. The Lincoln side is farther but Black Mountain Burger is an awesome place to eat. The Conway side is closer, and has a lot to offer, but is more blah and built up (IMO). Keep me posted on when you're coming up. Would be good to at least put a face with the name.

Talk of a ladder in the whites reminded me of a hike I took with my wife. Check out the ladders of Mt Willey. This was June 2022, we came down. I’d actually recommend doing the Willey range going upWilley to Field to Tom.

 

Nice! Yes going up Willey would have been a better plan for us. We both destroyed our toes coming down that pitch.

I’m trying to do all of the 48 4,000s, but across a lifetime. I’ve got all the presidentials done - but I do have to go back for Washington. We bailed on it a few years back due to cold and rain. It was a miserable day up on that ridge and we made the right choice bailing down Tuckermans. I may just save washington for my last 48 - and eat a chilli dog with the Cog railway people. A reasonable goal for me is to hike 5-6 of them per summer.

I am hoping to hike this summer: Mt. Lafayette, Little Haystack, Mt. Flume and Mt. Liberty on 1 full weekend while staying at the Greenleaf hut. And maybe on day trips grab North and South Hancock and the tri-pyramids on separate day trips.

 

Congrats on the accomplishment, and welcome to the club. Wife an I did Mt Washington in 9/2013, had about the same type of weather at the summit. I still hope to get all 48 of the 4000 footers in NH.
