Worth a quick read… Link: Analysis | The happiest, least stressful, most meaningful jobs in America A little surprising to see forestry work at the very top, but then again maybe not. Of course it’s also at the very top of the “most dangerous” job studies. A long time ago I worked in financial services and left it because I agreed with this survey’s findings—it’s an amazingly unfulfilling career! It bums me out to see healthcare ranked so low and teaching even lower.
JK sounds like a pretty gravy job, gets to be outdoors, no deadlines or sales pressure. The example pictured and captioned is basically a tree hugger with a degree employed by wealthy tree huggers.
Great point—the picture is a bad example of a logger. But the article/study seems to pertain to actual loggers. I didn’t interpret the study as saying it’s a “gravy” job—just statistically slightly less stressful than other professions.
As I am married to a man who was a logger for over 35 years, I won't say it is less stressful especially for the wife. You don't know if he will come home at night or lose his life on the job. When he was working late moving equipment on some of the mountainsides around here, it was really tough. Granted, campinspecter really loved the job he did even with the politics that sometimes intruded.
Timber cutter, by far the best job ever. Especially when you have a new saw worked up, dialed in and running to its full potential. Anything else in the brush, second. It’s tough to watch your Mrs(at the time) worry like Mrs. Woodwidow talked about. Lots of women won’t last like she did and still does. We’ll always be brush rats in some fashion even if it’s just firewood hoarding. Owl
