After a brutal cold and windy week before Christmas, it has flipped here in my part of PA.
My firewood consumption has turned to shoulder season rates with only starting a fire in the evening and letting it go out during the day. It was 48 degrees outside for a low this morning, which is considerably above the normal high for this date. Sunny and mid 50's during the day, not complaining mind you....just saying. Watching weather across the country, pretty lucky here compared to some of you folks. :salute:

Here in Ct not much different. Warm temps, muddy ground and three days of rain coming

Warmer than normal here for awhile in the Great White North but that changes back this week.

Gentlemen, the blame lies squarely on my shoulders. I had staged up a substantial amount of black locust and hickory for the colder temperatures, which didn’t stick around. Had I brought in all ash and red maple, it would be 30 below zero right now  For my next trick, I’m going to continue ignoring my snowblower that’s sat idle since last year. That’ll ensure we get hammered with 6 feet of snow in short order :)

Shoulder wood for most of the day, oak/ash mix overnight.

We like to have windows open. So a small fire keeps the place just right for us.

I let the stove die out overnight the last few evenings. Amazing how warm the nights were; warmer than the high daytime temps usually are.

Mother Nature has an amazing way of averaging things out.

I hear you, but just the opposite for me. So, saving my oak and after spending many $$ on getting the plow truck running to take care of my lane, fixing generator and snow blower, there will mild temps and no snow rest of the year. You are welcome. :D

I'm burning my SS wood too. Starting a fire before bed and letting it go out takes enough edge off the chill to keep us happy.

I did a new friction disk and auger belt in my MTD, that’s why only two plowable snow storms so far in north central Ct.

My yard is muddier than it’s ever been with 2 more days of rain coming. Lots of truck sliding around the firewood piles, so I might as well go back to work tomorrow. There’s only one night below 32 in the 10 day, so we’re probably going to get snow. Still burning red oak in the basement to keep upstairs comfortable.

Fine with me. If it never snowed here again in the winter we'd be a much better place.
I don't see bodies in the streets in the southern US where they get no snow at all.

Unless you consider the many homeless all over the streets in warmer cities

My SS wood right now is smaller splits of oak. My true SS splits are behind the good stuff, waiting for spring.

Woke up this morning to 66 inside and outside. Explains why I received no orders for firewood yesterday and today. December was my best month in five years of selling firewood. Over five figures! Fortunately I do well with outside burners watching football in their covered patios.

Yeah, not liking it. I want some frozen ground again. Supposed to be near record highs tomorrow here.
Upper 50's. Extended forecast showed no cold in the future.

Not as much as to make a noticeable dent in my stash. Averaged 3 stove loads per day, for a good 4 days straight. The weather got warmer and I’m still burning BL, even when it’s in the high 40s. I actually like it as shoulder wood since it’ll stay in the coaling stage for a long time.
