Finally walked the mini up the hill behind my house, building a new road along the way. Tried to pop this hickory free but aside from getting it off the stump here it sits. Maybe the skidding winch will get it…maybe. 9E84BBBB-D809-4DD4-BC11-2A37C89F2BE0.jpeg 66D27421-1005-4755-9815-8E248A0BC2B2.jpeg FF3A4929-F804-49A0-8C45-397225DC5EE6.jpeg

Thats a scary one, especially on a hill. Just keep the 500 at a safe distance when you do.

Finally was able to pull it all the way down. Got the first log down to the house, too to come tomorrow. Lots of caution and equipment, but nothing broken including me. I have been staring at this for over a year 2E711B6D-85BD-4FBF-88CC-C116BB220664.jpeg 77F9F5BB-EF38-4CFE-A69D-F76DB39A0E34.jpeg

Good Work! I didn’t think you’d be able to get that hickory torn away, because the fibers are so dang tough. A lot of good wood in that bad boy.

Good job getting it down safely and nice you have the tractor to assist. Smart to take the time and think it through and in the end on the ground and all in one piece.

    Mill fodder or OWB chow?

I once put a 3/4 inch piece of plywood on the ground where one of those would have landed thinking the ply might keep the tree from punching itself into the ground.

glad you got it down safe. What are those tractor winches rated for? Looks like not much could say no to that persuasion.

Not that I want to admit it, but I took a few cautious undercuts at the base, used the winch to snap it off at the cut to get it out of the hole. Winch is good for 8000 lbs. once locked, it’s good for however hard the tractor will pull…..

That was very nice work indeed! I've worked a few similar to that and they require a bit of thinking and a lot of caution. I love my winches and hydraulics. If stuff goes awry at least I can be a good distance away. That'll make nice heat when the time comes.

Got 95% to the house, including this bucket of splits from the stump. Next weekend I will buck it all, clean up the stump and some of the limb wood. Hope all are well! 8B0A0654-FB9B-4C4D-9C32-758AA07BFBA7.jpeg
