I haven't done any cutting in the woods behind my house since last winter. Time to get on it as I have some empty racks and I want to clean up some areas. First on the list was a BL that blew over than later shifted onto my tree stand. Nice try taking me out Lorax! But you missed! Clmbed into the stand and put on my safety harness, brought the saw up with my rope and was able to take off the limbs that were hung up. Pic is 9" diameter, base probably 12". A section had a little rot happening. Kind of typical with BL. First cart load. There was a BL limb that was already down and I bucked that up. It was getting a little punky. But still has BTUs My tire must of been low as the weight of the first cart load almost took it off the rim. I got 3 cart loads including limb wood out of that blow down Felled a standing dead, barkless BL, that to me is ideal size and no rot. (No pics, rain was moving in). While I was bucking the standing dead I found a black cherry log that still had section of good heartwood. Tossed that in. Stacked the limb wood and tossed a few shorts/uglies into the bin. Rain ended the fun for the day. Echo 7310 w/ 24" bar and his little brother 590 did the work. I plan on stacking quite a bit, then the fiskars will go to work on some cold winter night.
There's a few BL that are down. 2 are decent size. A few more standing dead and a couple branches that need cleaned up. Some logs that have been down for awhile. They still may have some life left. Also this mess to deal with
Hey Biddleman How much locust do you have do you have any for sawlogs if you have enough for a tri axle log truck ? I have been running ad's to find a load I supply trucking and .65 bdft for black locust JB
I wish I had enough for a tri axle, but nearly enough. I'll keep you in mind if I find the mother load.
One of the climbing stick steps got broke. It's at the very top which I don't use, so lucked out. The stand itself is unscathed other than some paint missing from the seat. It's a Gorilla brand treestand that I got over 15 years ago and never hung. Guess it pays off once in a while to be a hoarder.
Hey nice take! That pile looks real good, and will look as good when split too! How many days worth of heat is that pile? Sca
Good for you. I almost hung a stand this fall but ended up just hunting from blind. I stopped climbing several years ago at my wife's request but I still miss it. I sold a couple stands and 3 sets of climbing sticks but still have some sticks and one stand is a climber. I probably should get rid of them but maybe not.
