I had to work 7AM-7PM shift this weekend. What fun we had, especially Sunday afternoon when things thawed a bit. We found at least 7-8 places with ruptured pipes... At one of our bulk baggers, even had a heat lamp on the pump above. On my end of the plant... And that pipe was insulated... Got this filter This building usually has enough heat from the calciner to be fine. It has been shut down for a couple months. Probably shattered 50' of this line... And it blew the gate valve apart at the top of the line... This elbow was insulated, supplied water to my control room and other equipment I run... Should be a real fun day for the maintenance dept tomorrow...
Yea I'm sure those un insulated pipe were just asking for it. Was it not thought to drain those lines? Especially if it wasn't in use and we knew the cold was coming for awhile? I'm a little ways north of you and I believe we got down to 13f. We dipped below freezing Thursday night and nothing thawed out till today. Not sure if we got above freezing untill yesterday and it wasn't by much.
My daughter said they closed UGA one day because of dangerously cold temps, 10*. Lol. BUT if you don’t get these temps normally it can be dangerous.
We just broke out of the deep freeze up here in Dakotah Territory. Supposed to continue to warm through the night and by Wednesday be a high of 34°. We will be almost 55° warmer than our low a couple days ago. I can feel your pain, the cold brings out the worst in vehicles, plumbing, furnaces, and equipment.
We were lucky at home too. Walked outside this morning to feed the cats, saw water beginning to run down the hill. Did some checking. Faucet by the pool was wrapped and covered with a bucket. It just broke the wye... Thank you Jesus.
I saw this on the Weather Channel. From The Weather Channel Android App: Frozen Pipe Bursts, Ohio Statehouse Flooded - Videos from The Weather Channel Looks like the cold got them too.
Holy hum. Good it was just some pipes/fittings. The damage that can occur with running liquids can be horrendous. Local guy on the news had a pipe break on his 3rd floor and it ruined pretty much the entire interior of his building. It was a sprinkler pipe and he said it ran for about 15-20 minutes till the fire dept. got there to shut it down.
