Does anyone have any experience with the drill bit attachment for splitting wood? I haven’t broken down yet to buy a splitter and have a bad shoulder so can’t split wood the traditional way. Do these really work at all? If so, any recommendations on which one to purchase? I know they won’t work as well and especially as fast as a splitter. Having one,if they work, would be good for occasional splitting I need to do like some firewood I have purchased that is so big it needs to be split again. Any advice is appreciated.
.... I'd say spend your dollars else were.... buddy bought one brought it over... we made burnt smelling wood several times...but that was our experience...
I've experimented with making several of them. If the screw is rather fine it will strip and heat up, a lot. A course thread will work fine but you're going to need a stout drill and a way to hold the log in check.
Those commercials that show those things splitting wood like crazy are using the straightest grained red oak there ever was and I'm sure a butter knife and rubber mallet would split it just fine too!
That design has been around for years there was a pto splitter named bark buster which used a much larger screw if you were splitting straight grained oak for kindling from small pieces it might work but other than that it is a waste of money BUT WAIT!!! if you order in the next ten minutes we will double your order and include a trash bag to throw it away in !!!maybe all for the remarkable price of 9.95 JB
You can always count on the "as seen on TV" products. From my observations, it seems that the Europeans burn little short small stuff, like 6" long. It's probably fine for this and I think this is common over there. I guess all they have access to is overgrown shrubbery for "firewood".
After toying around with the idea, I'm going to get a little screw splitter for my cordless drill just to downsize wood when needed for restarts in the mornings when the coals are sometimes burned way down.
