And what they didn't post is the fact that it was colder in Hell than in Paradise (Paradise, MI)!! That does not often happen.

Yes to both...sort of. Not super tight but good insulation. New windows put in about 10 years ago along with insulation. But yet, before this was done we still kept the house very warm.

Prior to installing our Fireview stove we had a big old Ashley. We were never very warm come January. We burned at least 6 cord of wood per winter but with the new stove we stayed very warm and burned only 3 cord! This is what a good stove can do for you.

I am not saying this is the best stove for all! There are other good stoves on the market. One also has to realize that running the newer stoves is different from running the older stoves. However, the learning curve is very short and easy.

We were supposed to leave on a trip to see family. NOPE. :( And it doesn’t look good for us to go that way tomorrow either. Lots more Lake Effect to be hitting South of us where we would have to go through. They may get 2-3 feet more on top of the 2-3 feet they already have. o_O

Oh well. We are all safe and warm.

Steady temperature of 17 all night. Hopefully this is the break from this cold spell.

I don’t understand how it could be colder here when you’re closer to the arctic circle and surrounded by the lakes. It’s 11 here.

It is because of the lakes! Many people who live south of us are amazed in winter to see they get colder than we do. However, one does not have to go very far north to find it much colder. It is not uncommon for the UP of MI to be 20 degrees or more colder than the LP. We have lived in the north but now are in central LP.

-5f here and not as windy. Got a load of black ash and sugar maple going which feels nice. I am going to start getting things loaded up to see if I can get through the drifts on the lake with the quad. If not I will gear up to walk out to the spear shack tomorrow.

Family get together yesterday was cancelled due to bad weather. I must have shoveled the back deck and walk 6 times! Finally tried to plow a little just to open up. What a mistake that was!

Snow coming over the top of the plow isn't very effective at all. Punched a couple of holes in the snow and then parked the truck. At least it will be a little (very little) easier this morning for plowing.

I'm thinking well over 24". Wind has died down and it is almost full daylight here now.

-2 this morning. Many Amish neighbors driving by so I give them a little treat by burning apple and cherry on church days.
