That's a nice looking space! But I'd hate to have to trudge out there to enjoy it....

Not to hijacker’s this thread, but my parents just got a green mountain 60 and are very displeased with the heat output. They’re stove can’t hardly heat the 20x20 room the stove is in, much less the rest of the house. And the blower that it comes with is a joke. I can blow out birthday candles harder then this thing blows.

I’ve been heating two years with a quadrafire pioneer 2 and it is 10 times the stove the harthstone is. Way better blower. My quad will raise the temp in my living room (about twice the size) from 65 up to 80 in two hours if I try. My dad couldn’t get that out of the hearthstone unless it was 80 outside to start.

Why not start your very own post about your very own problems then? You know they're free, right?  Buddy is happy with his, so why rain on his parade?

Not raining on anyone’s parade. Others in this thread have success with this stove and thought they might have some help.

But I’ll start a new one just for you.

I’m right at 1000 sq ft and the GM 60 has had no problem both keeping the space at 70+ degrees but ALSO truly burning all night long (930pm-630am) with coals leftover. It DOES take a bit to get going from dead cold, between the soapstone/cast iron heating up, but it’s even, long heat afterwards is what I was after. My experience anyway…

As for blower, don’t totally disagree. For the sound it gives off, airflow doesn’t match. Still does the job moving air around stove though.

    she is pretty too!

Sounds possible your folks got too small of a stove for their needs.

It’s spec’d for 2000 sq ft and that’s about the size of there house. That’s why they got this one and not the 80. And because of the cost. They were looking at the soapstone but that was out of the budget

Spec is just that a general statement from a manufacture. Doesn't have anything to do with air flow, insulation and most important heat requirement of the individual house and what ever influences it. I went from a NC13 which is more inline with my sq ft to a NC30. Personally for me and my work hours good down to 15 degrees and then it becomes work to keep the heating requirements of the house. But for like exact for probably 2 weeks out of the heating year it works great.

That spec is for a completely air sealed home with low ceilings in Carolinas. They bought to small of a stove..

Yup. Stove ratings are like sleeping bag ratings…you don’t buy a 0 degree bag for 8 hours of sleep at 0 degrees. That rating is to not freeze to death, not to be comfortable.

I googled that stove, and the ratings are all over the place, from a minimum of 900 to a max of 2400 square feet, depending where you look.

For my spot a stove has to be at least 3 cubic feet and up.Nothing else has a chance in keeping us comfortable.

Snowing!!?? Your pic and setup looks like it could be on a stove information pamphlet!

It was right at 90 here yesterday, 80s today. I may get to sneak in one more night fire sometime....

IMG_3329.jpeg Yup. Thankfully ground warm enough that very little is sticking and no shoveling!! It’s that wet cold though. Wood heat is the medicine!!
