I get 4-8 at a time here too, on 1/3 acre. Unfortunately in a county where there is no hunting they amount to nothing more than shrub eatin' hooved rats. There is a serious overpopulation problem here. We have a doe with triplets hanging around my neighborhood. That is unheard of in a more natural setting. They have destroyed all of the natural undergrowth.
Triplets are not unheard of and we have one doe that has triplets this year. But I understand the problem you have in your area and that is a real shame. Last winter most folks in the country were amazed and some got disturbed with all the deer coming into yards during winter and early spring. But, they had nothing to eat so went looking. One bad part of that too is there was more road kill as they were starving and just looking for food and perhaps the reflexes were not there as good and they got hit. Another offshoot of the hard winter last year is that there isn't too much for antlers this year. We have one decent buck is all we've seen.
Those are winter oats. I have also spread some alfalfa seed so next year we are hoping it comes up nice. If not, we'll just plant something else. Probably a clover of some type. I have seeded some clover in another plot and that is coming up nicely now.
And those deer can be very tasty too! Notice in this picture the oats are just coming up. Now they are about 4-5" but they are chewing them up fast.
