It's cold up in South Dakota. -17 when I woke up this morning. When the sun came up we had one of the best sun d0gs I've ever seen. These only happen when it's really cold outside and there's lots of ice particles suspended in the air. Feels like I'm in the Arctic up here. I've got the stove going full bore with some seasoned mulberry today.
Not a sun dog...not sure what it was, maybe just a hole in the clouds, but I took a pic because it was sure enough unusual! This was from yesterday about 4:30...
Looks like it could be a partial one - must have been cold out your way too! Here's another picture I took later on in the morning. It disappeared shortly after this.
Just saw this thread and it dawned on me that I had just seen at least a partial one. I went out to look and took this pic at 2:45 PM, -8*F and -35 wind chill. Last night it got down to-18*F with howling winds , wind chills around -50F and to top it off the power went out at 8pm for almost exactly 12 hours.
