Doing the same thing here. Just got back from filling up the fuel cans for the generator. Could be an interesting 24 hours starting this evening with first a 3–5-inch snowfall, then turning to 2-3+ inches of rain, before turning back to snow and a deep freeze. Add in the 30-60 mph winds and the rapid snow melt of the 8-14 inches of snow already on the ground and there is potential for significant flooding and power outages (there is no place for the rain to go). They did a lousy job plowing my road so I'm going to use the tractor and cut a few drainage run-offs this afternoon to hopefully direct all the water flowing down the road. Whatever is left of the snow by late Friday night will be a hard freeze and will be a PITA to clean up. Extended forecast is showing temps in the 40s the first week of January with more rain. Looks like it's going to be a lousy, icy winter with limited snowfall. I blame Al Gore :D

Still 40, calm, and slight drizzle. Probably 2 more hours and the front will be here.

Boiler is loaded with an absurd amount of oak, hedge, and hickory.

With this whole situation I doubt it’ll be warm enough long enough and enough rain to melt all the snow to bare ground. That will equal 3 solid inches of ice until it warms up l9ng enough to melt it, probably March. Not looking forward to this chit show.

It hit here yesterday afternoon around 2 in the afternoon. Not sure what the temperature was when it hit but it bottomed out at 18 below zero around six or seven this morning. Only about 3 inches of snow with significant drifting. Power went out for the whole town at around 8pm and was out for almost exactly 12 hours. We stayed warm enough with the wood heat.
I was out in it quite a bit, helping the village maintenance guy with a generator for the wells, and I have a couple living in their big 5th wheel camper on my back lot. So the maintenance guy and I got a unproven generator for them to try to stay somewhat warm. Generator pretty much worked ok, but minus 40-50 wind chills for 12 hours in a camper is a game of slowly getting colder in the Rv. :shiver:

Last nights experience helped me to see the value of being prepared for unpleasant/Unexpected situations ( not gonna say emergencies, because I believe it’s largely one’s own actions that determine if it becomes an actual emergency or just a difficult situation).
A generator would have been nice to have a way to move the warm air around, but not “really” necessary. Some gas on hand would have been better than having to scrounge up some for the generator for my rv lot tenants. ( the only gas station was out of power too)
I plan to get some more lamp oil and a couple more lamps for light, I had 2 lamps lit, plus multiple candles going so we wasn’t in total darkness. I have multiple Coleman lanterns and a couple Coleman camp stoves and several gallons of camp fuel so we could have done some cooking if needed. We faired pretty well and I actually found it kind fun. Been blowing hard all day and not supposed to let up much until tomorrow mid day

I vividly remember watching that for the first time in the summer of 2004. It was late at night, and I remember after the movie was over, I walked outside expecting to see a blizzard. Oh how they had me eating right out of their hands :picard:
18 years later, I’m even more entertained by the strange relationship dynamic Hollywood has with the political class, in respects to influencing public opinion.
