Not like that beast gtg in Michigan, but a gtg nonetheless.

Myself, Sirchopsalot, and buZZsaw BRAD, and a few hangers-on, got together to enjoy the day.

    Myself, Sirchopsalot(Dave), and Brad. IMG_20220430_160924.jpg

There was a discussion about elm and difficulty in splitting. I happened to have some and Dave had his Isocore. Game on

Oh... it was flipped over in case it was easier. It wasn't.

Brad brought along his thumb.... still imbedded.

Hot dogs, pulled pork, beans, and potato salad.

And much BS'ing around a campfire.
    IMG_20220430_195553.jpg

Brad brought me some black locust and mulberry to use in my smoker. Ditto for Dave bringing some cherry. I'll add pictures of both tomorrow.

Others, were Steve my brother, my wooding buddy Bill, and a friend of Dave's, Jeff.

I think other pictures will be added. A good time was had by all.

I hope you guys had a safe ride back to CT.

Sirchopsalot, didnt chop much on that elm piece. Might as well have been a reinforced concrete post.

Below, discussing the merrits of cast iron,

And BS'ing....hand gestures indicate that "huge monster of a tree I chopped down".

Talked of FHC history, of the many interesting folks we met.
And I have a coveted FHC sticker for my window (not revealing the source naturally)
Despite the bears, seeing the swag shop open came up for discussion.

We got home well, got turned around once just before the 'pike leg home.

I'm looking forward to another visit, perhaps to include playing with saws and mauls.

Wood stove lit, heat begining to build. Time for showers and bed.

Thanks MikeInMa and Mrs. MikeInMa. You guys have a real nice spot, and a well tuned ability to host.

Coming along slowly. Stitches came out Friday. May try a rear handled saw this week. Keeping myself busy with wooding despite the setback.

No saws run. Only Daves attempt at splitting elm and the fire the only wood related stuff.

Most of the wood for the campfire was cut earlier in the day. My chainsaw ran for about 5min, cutting a bunch of dead, fallen branches that I gather up throughout the year.

Glad to see you guys made it safely back home! That's the most important event of the day,

Brad's gift of BL, some cedar kindling, and a number of mulberry chunks to use in my smoker.

And Sirchopsalot, brought rounds of cherry that I don't see a lot of. Also for use in the smoker.

My friend and I worked a tree job all day before the gtg. A trailer load of maple got cut, split (by hand) and hauled. But, it was awesome to sit, and eat, and socialize Saturday night.
Granted I was a walking salt-lick all evening, but it was a nice repreive. One I don't allow myself much, and wouldn't have otherwise.
Sitting talking about wooding was fruitful and relaxing.

    Gratitudes Mike.

It was way overdue to show some respect to the cherry.

I split most of it. A few thicker rounds wanted to be sledge/wedge. That didn't excite me today.
    IMG_20221219_084217.jpg

    These are always fun.
    IMG_20221219_083605.jpg

I was keeping shards to the side. I'll share what I have with a friend that also uses a smoker. He mentioned a brisket, with apple and now cherry smoke.

    IMG_20221219_084425.jpg

I'll use it on pork butts. I'm thinking maybe between Christmas and new years.

I've also not used the mulberry. I will though!

    Hey that's cool!
I haven't smoked anything (illegal) so I don't have a real appreciation for cherry or Mullberry's smoking properties.
How do you shred/chop it for use in a smoker?

I use charcoal in my smoker.

A few small chunks of smoke wood, suffices.

How do you like that firewood carrier? For the most part, I've always just carried an armful at a time from the woodshed as needed, and I'm outside often anyway so it's worked for me. However, with getting older (and the body breaking down more), I'm exploring other options. With the steps up to the raised deck, I'm not looking to haul anything with wheels up the stairs. Just thinking of options to get more than an armful from the woodshed to the bottom of the stairs. (I don't like storing extra in the basement.) I used to store some firewood on a rack on the deck over a decade ago, but it just seemed pointless as I was always refilling the rack. Just became easier to grab an armful every time I was out with the dog(s).

Just wondering how you like the carrier, and do they make covers for them? I started using a wheelbarrow and can use my smaller Viking sled as well. It's funny that they don't market covers for wheelbarrows in the US (I can find them for sale in the UK). With the intermittent snow, I want to cover whatever I use when it's parked at the bottom of the stairs so will probably pick up one of the Shappell sled covers.

That 2-wheeler works great for me. Got it for a song on FB a few years back.

My deck is two steps up from ground. From a full log dolly, I'll arm carry about a third. Rack is just a few steps away. Once lighter, I'll pull it up the steps and unload at the rack.

The design of the wheel placement, makes for easy tilting, with the majority of the weight being carried to the wheels.

I used to use a larger yard cart. It held more wood, but too awkward to try to roll up the steps, even with ramps.

Unsure of cover availability. Contractor grade trash bags might suffice.

I usually drag it behind me, when full. Seems easier than pushing up a bit of incline, to the house.
