Leaf wise, sugar is more rounded and silver is more pointed. Bark wise, sugar is more furrowed and silver is more flaky. Someone will probably be along shortly with pics.
Silver has flakier/scalier bark and usually grows in clumps. Most i see are yard plantings as its fast growing.
One thing I noticed was that when fresh cut, the sugar maple had a orange reddish look, similar to when I’ve seen Doug Fir rounds online.
