Isn't it what a forum is for, to find out what other people think? Some people have a lot of experience with equipment.

I don't recall asking that but if I did, doesn't matter, such comments have definite value, too.

He traded it all for a new Husqvarna TS248XD, a 'steering wheel' riding mower with 48" cut. I see a retail about $5,000. I just wouldn't do that deal; as I have said, I would try to sell the Kubota package. If I were hellbent on trading in, I would talk to more than one dealer and not be a "laydown" buyer for the first dealer! But, sheesh, it's so easy to sell stuff these days... online, and a busy highway is right out front. I would try. Why he even wants ANY mower is another issue, lol.

I was not expecting that. I was thinking this was against a new larger tractor not a gas riding mower....

I have a BX 2660, a 26 hp. subcompact tractor, slightly bigger than the one above, I bought 10 years ago with a 60" mowing deck and a set of front weights fo 13k new. It's too big to be a lawnmower and too small to be a real tractor. I call the BX my U.L.A.V. short for Urban Lawn Assult Vehicle.

I added a Kubota FEL a few years later at about $2500 installed.

Sounds like my buddy's JD 4x4 hydro subcompact 23hp yanmar diesel, fel, belly mower and a 3 pt Hitch . He got a great deal about 8500, bought from his boss. He mentioned he could sell it for a nice profit and from what I've seen, he could easily. He really needs a bigger tractor based on the logs he moves.

Makes you wonder what the dealer markup is on a 5k retail husqvarna mower. Let’s say they sell it for 9k in the spring and the markup on the husqvarna was a thousand bucks (I have no idea). The dealer makes 5k on the deal instead of the 1k, if your family member just paid for the new mower. Seems like a dang good dea for the dealer in my world. I guess it’s all relative. Some work to save a few grand is well worth it for me, but I’m sure to others it’s not.

I'm guessing close to a grand markup on that 5k mower. If I were to buy a new ztr, that's what I'm looking at price wise 4500 or so, there's a little better pirced now and then. But take the lowest price you see, then figure they're still making some profit.

I knew a someone who worked at a ktm dealer and she told me the bikes were marked up 1k. I have a coworker who used to be a gravely and Stihl mechanic. When I go back to work next year I’ll ask him if he knows what the gravely markup is.
