This is my third one…i got two of them off a neighbor for 40 bucks the one we got running good but all th bar oil would leak out and fuel tank was sealed together with some type of black caulking so i sold that one off
Picked this up Saturday at a pawnshop. Price tag was $152. After looking it over I offered $75, he said that they just gave it a tuneup and best he could do was $90. I told him they should have put an air filter on it (all the flocking is gone and is just a screen) because the carb is probably full of crap and gonna need a kit that will be hard to find for something that old. Plus you’ve had it 2 years according to the tag. “Nope $90 is all I can do.” “well if you just worked on it and it runs, I’ll do the $90” So he gets the guy that worked on it, I told him he had 7 pulls to make it run and I would do the $90. It finally popped on the 8th pull ( so it does have spark) he was able to get it to fire once more but never ran. I told him to talk to his boss and I would still do $75 out the door. Boss agreed At the shop this morning it ran on the first pull. And seems like it is going to be good, carb is actually clean in the bore. Needs an air filter and a bar and chain.
I’ve got to get it cleaned up and get it tuned. Can’t wait to have some fun with it. I’ll get a video up too!
Good deal. Are you hoarding them now? Seeing old mac's like that bring back fond memories of cutting with dad as a kid. He had a similar model. Sunday was cutting day. Always remember it being hard to start and looking back dad never really took good care of it. best of luck with it.
That's a nice little saw there! Glad you got a decent deal on it. These things have really gone up in price the past few years, at least where I have to buy them. I will always love the sound of these old Macs.
I bought mine mostly to go for a ride when I got it started researching I found fuel tank bonding was the death nail for these guys.
I have a brand new handle/oil tank i found on ebay for 40 bucks was planning on replacing it..but then my friend had a perfectly fine 101 show up at his shop that i guess he fixed up asked if i wanted it hell yea so i just sold that other one for 100 bucks gave him cash we were both happy..got the extra handle god knows if ill ever need it i guess it cant hurt to have incase i find another one or 102-104
Ashamed to say I’ve had the 500i for over a year and it’s not seen much action. I bought it because a local store had one and I knew I needed a 70-80cc saw at some point. It’s gonna see more use this winter. Have about 8 tanks through it and I’m noticing it’s cutting keeps getting better. put it through maybe a cord of mostly red oak today.
Darren, the guy across the street that I did the tQuoting a tree job gave me this saw a few months ago. Needed a bar and chain ( strange but I couldn’t seem to get one from my 345 or 346 to work on it) was pretty dirty but seems to start and run pretty well. I’ll run it some and then maybe do a muffler mod.
Might be .325 or 3/8LP on that one? I’d guess .325 is what’s on your other saws? Or was it the gauge or drive link count that did it?
