I'm watching Life Below Zero: The Next Generation - Winter's Trap. S5 Ep3

I understand the lack of PPE on these shows. I definitely disagree with it.

    What do I catch?

It sounded like it started and ran fine. The editing moved away from it.

So.... do all you Stihl guys start either the bar cover/scabbard on? I usually take mine off.

I'm a Husky guy but I think the basics stay the same. My scabbard comes off before I start my saw. Kinda like to keep it whole.

I’d say it’s his first time using a saw or he’s distracted thinking about the next overly dramatic dialogue.

I couldn't find in my husky manuals, where it said to leave it on.

    Stihl? No idea.

    Always called it a scabbard...

Apparently, he didn't read the directions  :rofl: . Then again, the saw was probably a prop from the producers of the show.

Not to get overly technical here guys, but according to the safety nannies the saw should be started with the brake engaged anyway. The chain shouldn't turn and damage the bar condom anyway. Those shows have been sued numerous times by the participants for making them do unsafe things for the drama. No idea what this guy's doing, but I gave up on those shows a long time ago.

Yeah, there's scripted drama on these shows.

However, I enjoy the problem solving activities they work through, scripted or not.

It would be great if they showed him pretending to cut with the scabbard on. Half of these shows are beyond scripted and fake. No clue about this one, but some are.

I don't disagree at all with that. Some of those folks are extremely astute at creative problem solving issues with almost nothing to work with. I admire the can do frontier spirit immensely. Shame they won't just film it as is. Same thing with Timber shows, they never show how to cut technical trees, or setup yarding equipment. Just "oh Lord we're gonna be broke if it rains again tomorrow".

Gave up on them as soon as they started. Watched a great documentary on the USS Indianapolis last night….holy chit, now there’s some real men! I have no time for all this “reality” tv.

The only thing real about reality television is there's no reality to it.

Oh I disagree, the ads make someone some real money or the shows wouldn't get made.

My tv is only used to gather dust. The last time I used it the big problem was I couldn't find the control. A few days later i found it so went ahead and turned it on. That was okay for not more than 10 minutes. I keep it only because when My son and his wife come for a few days, she likes to watch it. I have no idea why.

I agree. I watched the first episode of ax men when it started and HATED it. Bunch of drama BS.
Swamp loggers was more enjoyable. I liked the owner. Read somewhere the producers wanted more drama and he didnt so the show ended.
Anybody ever watched "Big Bad Wood"? Only one season and seemed totally scripted.

Not a fan of any reality shows.

I watched big bad wood. I found it entertaining, at times. It was DVR worthy.

One of the tree service group is a couple of towns away. American Climbers. I see their signs now and then, as they do local jobs.

Yep, that's the way the safety police teach you to start them.
