An unintentional follow up to last months "Today's scrounge subject to change without notice" thread. Work took me back to the same neighborhood yesterday and the same Asplundh crew cutting there. Planned on cutting today, but not here. Wasnt losing out so cut here instead. Some pretty decent wood. Small red and Norway maple and the rest sugar maple. Just a big shagbark hickory trunk left. May go back tomorrow or ASAP. Bigger load than i wanted. Brad from York & Buttermilk are a Brad influence! Cut all the maple and had to squeeze it on there. Left rounds behind last time and gone when i came back. Processed right off the PU till the splitter ran out of gas. Splits and whats left.
Looks good Brad and I don't think your truck is anymore loaded than your normal. Hope you can get the hickory tomorrow.
It was loaded to the hilt. I even halved 12-14" diameter rounds to sardine pack them in. I had three saws in the cab even though the 462 didnt see action. Sugar maple is some HEAVY stuff too. Took it real slow on the 15 minute ride to storage.
When I’m loading, I try to put as much wood as possible forward toward the cab and then less near the tailgate. I find that this reduces rear sag and moves the center of gravity closer to the front of the truck.. that’s some beautiful wood!!
Brad's springs are so worn out, that poor F150 is got it's rubber baby buggy bumpers on the axle all the time. He's modified the brake system with a second pedal so he can use the rear brakes to steer like a farm tractor. The amount of wood you scrounge, you should have one of these Brad
Even come with some pre-made candle rounds! I had some birch like that. Used a spade bit on a cordless drill and made some holes in the bottom. Burned great in the firepit.
I would have had a hard time leaving the hickory behind. It’s 2 fold for me, good for the stove, better for the smoker!
Can you imagine? See me towing that rig, stopping roadside picking up logs? Ive seen smaller versions of that where the operator stands on the back while using the controls.
"Trail turn assist" is what Ford calls it on the new Bronco...allows you to apply the inside brake when the steering wheel is full lock...not available on any trucks though, that I know of. What is Trail Turn Assist? I notice that tailgate is pretty caved in there Brad...and looks like it would allow an extra inch or two of load capacity/room with the tailgate closed...
With the way the highway patrol relentlessly harasses commercial operators in your state, you wouldn't last a full day with that thing behind your truck..
